Although there is a lot of black I think outlining in black would be too heavy on some of the pieces. I agree that medium gray with a smaller zigzag stitch would work fine.

I would use matching thread to each piece, using blanket stitch.

hmm...so, I guess I am not the only one who does the matching thread thing...lol...I usually do it that way, and by hand!! But recently started doing some machine applique...thanks for all of your ideas, I knew I would get great help here!!

I love the last fabric with your blocks, then use the blue thread that matches, buttonhole stitch.
Can't wait to see the finished quilt, my Grandson is truck crazy, he would love this quilt. Where did you get the pattern? |
I do machine applique a lot and from looking at your blocks small black stitches would pop all the pics and will look nice. Or you could just go with invisible thread (not really my favorite to work with)

I think those blocks are just so cute! I've never done any applique so I'm not any help but I just love those blocks and hope to see the piece when it is all done. I like the plaid for the sashing but I am partial to plaid anyway. :)

These are so cute, love them!

Thanks again to you all! I think I will try a couple of the colors of threads, see what looks best for the applique, and try the plaid, probably on the bias, for the sashing...and see how it goes...again, thanks for coming thru for me!!
