I was thinking about an all-over feather design. There are plenty of FMQ options that would work depending on what thread you use. A 50wt cotton thread in a solid dull color (I'd probably go with a dull lavender, but a dull light grey would also work or possibly even a very light blue-grey thread) will help the thread blend in to the top more so you can still showcase all those beautiful fabrics.

I like the orange peel but would go corner to corner. It is totally cute!

I really like your quilt top! I agree with the cross hatching

I also vote for FMQ the orange peel design. It can be done in a continuous line using the seams for the spacing.

Orange peel will go fast and look great since you can do continuous. I am also pretty partial to feathers.

But if you are a very beginner, you might try larger stippling.

I did SITD on my first few and then did stippling and then orange peel. And later feathers.

I would do crosshatching IMHO

love your quilt. I wold do the orange peel. It would add a roundness tho the squareness of the quilt.

Thanks everyone! I would never have thought of the orange peel, and I am loving it... but also loving the wave and the cross hatching. Food for thought definitely. That if I ever get to he quilting part, as I have just been looking for backing fabric and its about £5 a quarter of a yard!

Whts everyones opinion on using calico but using a thread that shows up (this is the cheaper option)

Just finished a top made of 2.5 inch squares that are all random and I did a diagonal crosshatch. Did the same thing about 6 years ago on another utility quilt that rides with me in the car for impromptu picnics, ball games and heaven forbid breakdowns in the the winter. Quilt looks good, did not take long and the quilting did not take away from the pattern of the top itself.
