My sweet hubby is always so supportive of my quilting habit, but his support really got pushed almost to the brink today. I called him to check on our dinner arrangements and he said "Sometimes this quilting habit of yours can really be a pain!" I was shocked (cause I know he has been hitting quilt and fabric shops Christmas shopping) and said, "Why???????" He went on to relate that he had been having a weird stabbing pain in his mid back all day when he would stretch or bend over.....finally after a especially painful stab, he investigated and....Yep! You got it! Once of my quilting needles (threaded, no less) was woven into his flannel shirt!
He seemed to think that the fact that it was threaded, only added insult to injury, saying "...and I had to un-thread the thing to get it out of my shirt!"
Poor, sweet man! rotflmbo

Jim's Gem 12-16-2009 06:14 PM

LOL!! Poor baby!! I could see how that would be "slightly" annoying!!

butterflyquilter 12-16-2009 06:49 PM

How funny!! But I am amazed that he has been hitting quilt shops to buy your Christmas. I don't think my husband has ever been in a fabric store. But, now that I think about it, maybe that is good so he won't see prices!!

Shemjo 12-16-2009 07:19 PM

Poor fella! Hope he recovers completely!

nursie76 12-16-2009 07:28 PM

Thanks Sharon,

He has recovered completely, and is now enjoying his Quilting "war" story! ;-)

For Christmas I bought him a t-shirt that says:

"She quilts, I cook!"

I think he will wear it a lot!! Especially when we go on vacation and hit all the quilt stores!

amma 12-16-2009 07:29 PM

Oh no!!! He did take it rather well though  :D:D:D

nursie76 12-16-2009 07:31 PM

Yes he did....he is such a sweetie! That's why I've kept him around for the last 33 years :)

LucyInTheSky 12-16-2009 07:57 PM

Hahahah. I always warn the bf to be careful when he walks on the floor... not my fault if he steps on a stray needle! Glad your husband survived

dsj 12-16-2009 08:01 PM

He sounds like a great hubby to go shopping in a quilt store and the needle in the shirt he held his temper it sounds like. Mine has found several with his feet, he's usually pretty easy going until that happens.

sewnsewer2 12-16-2009 08:11 PM

OMG, the poor guy.

dsj 12-16-2009 08:49 PM

I want to come up with a glow in the dark needle, just think how many we would find

Absolutely wonderful idea!

amma 12-16-2009 08:54 PM

I love that idea :D:D:D

Tiffany 12-16-2009 10:38 PM

ROFL!! Poor guy. Hopefully he gets over his angst enough to continue shopping at quilt stores for you.

Oooh, I would love a glow in the dark needle! It would certainly help me find a couple I've lost and can't find. I keep expecting to step on them or sit on them but so far no luck. As long as the dog doesn't find them with his paws... :(

littlehud 12-16-2009 10:51 PM

Poor guy. He does sound like a keeper though.

OMG!!! OUCH!

tlrnhi 12-17-2009 04:53 AM

Poor guy! lol

nursie76 12-17-2009 05:01 AM

Yeah, he definitely is a keeper. Love him to pieces!
You know those bumper stickers that say "This car stops at all yard sales"? Well I think I need to get one for him that says, This car stops at all Quilt Shops" cause when we are out traveling, he tends to suddenly pull into a parking lot and say, "Look wifey, I see a quilt shop over there!" How's that for a darling man?
There seams to be no permanent damage from the needle, (no leaks when he drank his evening tea last night), so I think we are over the sticky (lol) situation.
Have a great day all.

Ninnie 12-17-2009 06:02 AM

ROFL DH has stepped on needles and pins so many times, he doesn't even say anything anymore

nursie76 12-17-2009 06:50 AM

Yea, I guess they get steeled to the shock after a while (lol).

Honey 12-17-2009 09:21 AM

My family always wear shoes or slippers when they come into my sewing room. They have all been poked! The funny part is, I always go barefoot and have never been poked. I probably shouldn't have said anything because now I will probably get one stuck to the bone!!!

bstanbro 12-17-2009 09:35 AM

When I was a little girl, my mother made all of my dresses. There was one that always hurt when I crossed my legs. I was in the 3rd grade and thought I was imagining it. Finally, I checked, and sure enough, there was a pin sewn into the hem.

penski 12-17-2009 09:42 AM

awe poor guy !!! you should be sure to get him something special for christmas for all the effort he is putting in making you happy !! lol i should talk i have heard my hubby has been at the local fabric stores shopping also !

reneebobby 12-17-2009 10:18 AM

I'll buy some! Glow in the dark pins as well

kathy 12-17-2009 11:20 AM

OMG, that poor man! When my husband was a kid he was running in the house which of course wasn't allowed and his mother grabbed a dress belt of hers that she was repairing and swatted at him, he still has the needle embedded in his arm! They didn't even realize it untill she went back to work on it and couldn't find her needle. The doctor said it would hurt more to dig it out than to leave it in so they left it. So when he makes wise cracks about me sewing I just ask if he wants another needle in his arm. LOL

Actually I am making him a quilt to cuddle under while watching old movies (something he loves to do). It is only the second quilt I have completed (or almost) and I am a novice at FMQ and doing anything more than a straight line, so it isn't my best work, but I have learned a lot while doing it and I know he understands the work that goes into such a project and will forgive my novice attempts.

We will have to compare notes on what our hubby's forays into the local fabric shops garnered for us!

thismomquilts 12-17-2009 12:37 PM

Too funny. My husband leaned back on a being-quilted quilt once - he was NOT a happy camper... :(

mamajan 12-17-2009 02:40 PM

My hubby always seems to find either my needles or pins, usually with his feet! As long as I do my sewing in one corner of the living room we are both pretty safe. He is such a dear tho, he will go to the stores with me and even find some really nice material, then tell me to buy yards instead of smaller pieces!! Can't live without him, going on 40 yrs.

Oklahoma Suzie 12-17-2009 02:47 PM

Wow, that could be painfull

Gee! That lends a whole new meaning to pin cushion!

I have a very dear friend who stepped on an unthreaded needle in her bare feet. It traveled into her foot and she need surgery and a hospital stay for recovery. Had the needle been threaded it would have been easier to locate and remove. Please be extra careful with needles and pins.

I have a friend who went through that. She didn't have to be hospitilized but she was in there and it took them minor surgery and 5 hours to remove the needle. Ouch! She no longer quilts bare footed but the rest of us who know her obviously haven't learned from her because we all quilt in bare (or socked) feet. I think of her often though and use my magnetic wand more then I would have otherwise.

jdavis 12-18-2009 05:02 PM

That's priceless!
What a good sport he is!

sandpat 12-18-2009 05:13 PM

Poor DH....he was probably just angling for you to "kiss his boo boo"...he does sound like a keeper!

OH! I didn't think about that! Drat! Missed my chance. Oh well, he was back at Joann's tonight and got me a sewing machine tote on wheels on clearance for $10 (regularly $90), an upgrade on my current one. :)

sandpat 12-19-2009 07:03 AM

 OH....he IS good....

paintedquilt 12-19-2009 08:17 AM

It could have been a bit lower...

brushandthimble 12-19-2009 08:27 AM

My sons always found my lost pins, with their feet.
My husband will go to the quilt shop for me, he prewashes almost all my fabric.

Damkina 12-24-2009 05:26 AM

OMG the poor bloke!! He seemed to recover pretty quick.

I'd love someone to invent the needle with smallest ever tracking device included. Just think of all those lost needles and pins we could find at the touch of a button.

Also, my 'favourite' needle broke clean in half last night and went stabbing right down my thumb nail. Damn painful!!
Luckily I quickly let go of the quilt and moved my hand out of the way before the blood marked the fabric.
