I just took this class about a week ago. We made a 4 block (16 squares) table topper with added borders to get the dimension we wanted. Deb Tuckers ruler and method is by far the EASIEST block I have EVER made. It consists of some trapezoids (easy peasy with ruler) and 2 different size strips WOF. I did the 2 color one (but you can easily use 3 or 4 different fabrics with stunning results) using a beige/beige tonal as my light then a burgundy with beige small stars. Turned out beautiful. Do yourself a favor and spend the $$ for the ruler/directions. I checked on line for the BEST price but with tax and shipping it was better to buy at my LQS. have a blast in your class.... I plan on making several more lap size. (cause I want to - plus justify the price of the ruler lol ! I would post a picture but still not sure how to from I phone !! sigh ..........

I have made several Hunter Stars and STRONG word of advice. My first one - all my fabrics were all naturals in creams and tans. The quilt turned out beautiful but you couldn't see the pattern. I was very disappointed but the one I made it for loved it. My next ones were red white and blue (made QOV's) and they turned out beautiful. Use darks and lights!!! Don't use medium shades that blend. To see the pattern you really need the contrast.

Are you ladies using the petite or the large ruler when you are making a bed quilt size? I am not sure what size to order..... does the 8" on the ruler mean an 8" square which is the entire design or 8" block, where 4 of them make up one star design? (?Does this make any sense to anyone??)

I bought the Petite one. The largest square you can make with it is 8 1/2" unfinished. You need 4 of these squares to make ONE BLOCK which would measure 16" FINISHED. I don't want to make blocks any bigger than 16" finished as I generally make lap quilts. I agree with above about using light and dark fabrics for a dramatic look. I liked this method as there are NO "Y" seams and NO HST. Hope this helps!

We are required to buy the ruler for the class and were told to pick two contrasting colors. One dark and one light, no neutrals. I'm leaning toward baticks. Not sure yet. I just looked at the cutting directions. Looks easy. I'm thinking I probably don't need a class to do this, but I'm committed now. I'll post a picture when I'm done. Thanks for all the input.

I have made a couple of Hunter Star Quilts. They were both queen size. They took much more fabric than I expected. If she is asking for only 2 yards of each fabric, I think it will be a lap size. If you want yours larger, you will need more yardage.

I chose paper piecing because I wanted it scrappy and thought that would give me results I wanted easier. Deb Tucker's rulers are the way to go imho. Booth took much more fabric than I expected.
