I am new to this sight and now all I want to do is quilt, quilt, quilt!
I have looked as so many pictures of your beautiful quilts, clean rooms and great ideas and that is what I want to be...when I grow up! Whoops I am grown up! My kids are gone and the ex is as well and I have a totally new life to celebrate! A wonderful new man in my life and a beautiful golden retriver...Bailey...that we rescued in November from the pound. So, here is the addiction...I am now getting up an hour early running to get my coffee and sit to check this website and read all of the fun things. Then I go in and look at my stash and start putting things together. Kiss my bf good bye after he says what are you doing to day? I only teach three days a week now due to the economy... Then I am off..rotary cutter in one hand ... ipod on.. and iron heating up! Zip, zip, zip...sew, sew , sew ...PRess..YES another block done...up on the board for later use...again go...again go...and in between seams throw the ball for Bailey... Shoot its noon gotta get in the shower and get to the grocery store...OOPS! Grocery shopping? What did I need again? Oh that's right dinner for tonight.in the car with Bailey in tow to town we go..BRAKE!!!!!Quilt shop.....two hours later with a new stash and my mind going a mile a minute...home wash the fabric,,oh ok put a few shirts in while I am at it too. Back to the stash and repeat...4:00 bf is home. Hi honey what did you do today? UMM...should I tell him? Oops gotta iron...well I look good at least...I will throw a shirt in too.. He says what's for dinner..oh um um Pizza!!!Quick call Pizza Hut they deliver right??? Eat, Honey watch whatever you like, I say..I am just going to clean a little in the guest room...He snoozes...yes! Zip, zip, zip.. 10:00 bedtime...I toss, turn, toss, turn, he snores,so I sneak downstairs and sew just a little longer...2 am! OMG I have to get up in 4 hours and then I can start again..Sleep dream...wake up to thoughts of yellow and orange fabrics in my head... BF gets ready for work...I give him a kiss and am ready to start again but not before I watch him walk out the door with a plaid shirt on and imagine that in my next rag quilt... Life as a quilter.....it's a wonderful addiction!!! |
That is so funny, but oh so true. I think we have all been there and done that.
Don't get burn out! That happens a lot.
LOL I love your description!! Yes, that's exactly what it's like for me.... except I have to work 5 days aweek, so that really gets in the way. :-P
My favorite thing about sewing late at night was in summer, when the windows were open. In August, the crickets were singing, and occasionally an owl called. There used to be a train that went through around 1 am, and the way the engineer blew the whistle at the crossroads was distinctive, unlike any other. It almost felt like a nightly greeting of sorts.
Enjoy! These are the moments when life is very, very good. |
Oh my goodness, I do the same thing, except my hubby works around here at the house. He will come in to "inspect" what I am doing every so often, except I do spend the evenings with him watching TV.
LOL!!! Yup, you have it bad. So glad to have the company!!!
OMG what a great story! You are absolutely addicted to quilting now. Little does the BF know that he will soon get a solid colored shirt in place of the plaid shirt!
Funny!!
Get a crock pot..that will help with the dinner..don't forget to add a lump of meat and pot/veggies.
oh, and turn it on.. the rest of your addiction?..welcome to the club! |
LMBO You are so HOOKED :D:D:D
Join the club!!! But isn't it a wonderful and rewarding addiction???? |
LOL - that is so funny because it's so true. The crock pot is a wonderful thing. When I use mine I make enough of whatever to last at least two meals. I refuse to spend more than 30 minutes cooking dinner after I get home from work. I cook so DH has to clean the kitchen. It's only fair, right?
Welcome to the wonderful world of quilting....It doesn't get any better than this!!!! Thanks for the chuckle, kinda reminded me of myself...
Conni |
Yeah? You say it like it's a bad thing.
Bailey's Mom...thanks for the hoot.... and all too true...
what's even worse is when I borrow a table at my school.....during my lunch break and tape freezer paper to it to draw out my next quilt design... and a staff member comes in and says... what are you doing and I tell them and they say..." I thought so."! Are we predictable ... or what! |
I love that. It describes us to a T.
We are right there with you!
How funny! But true! LOL Yes I think you are addicted as well as many of us. Welcome. And I hope there is no cure for myself. It just gets better. But? One can get burnout. I've seen it happen. For now enjoy.
oh yeah.... addicted!
You certainly came to the right place--welcome. We are all enablers!!
That is so true & you described it perfectly! I am blessed because my hubby & I just graze for dinner. I'm a vegetarian & he's working on it since his quadruple bypass a few years ago. Even then, he does most of the cooking which works for the both of us. He likes to cook & I clean up! :)
:-) I just loved this sounds like me great laugh all the way throught this great
I think keeping a bf or dh well fed is a good idea. They seem to care less about our quilting when they are well fed. I like the crock pot idea too, and big pots of soup or hearty casseroles for winter so we can get more than one meal out of it (and they often turn out to be less expensive to prepare so there is more money to move from the grocery budget to the fabric budget!!)
Enjoy your new addiction. You are among friends, and it could be worse! Lisa |
Start looking for rooms in church basements with the sign "QA" on the door (Quilters' Anonymous). The meetings are free, there's lots of coffee to drink, and weary-eyed women present. The meeting will begin with the Serenity Prayer and someone will open with, "Hi, my name is Judy. I'm a fabric addict." The group will respond with, "Hi Judy." If you're like me, you will run out of the room and when you get back home you will jump in the middle of your stash laughing hysterically saying, "I'm not ready yet. I haven't hit bottom." And you will begin pulling coordinating scraps of fabric out of your pile and begin yet another project. Good luck with your recovery!
My name is Rachael, and I'm an addict. :)
That's it. I'm not in recovery or plan to be... I can't do it at night though...way too tired! |
My husband just walked out the door to go to the Woodcraft Store. This is SO good for 2 reasons--I am home alone to sew uninterrupted AND the more money he spends there, the more money I get to spend on my quilting habit!!! :)
Welcome to the club, my dear! It's a fun one!!! |
yes i was that way but after 12 quilts one after the other i was burned out but getting back in slowly
When I got burned out quilting I bought an embroidery machine. Now that I'm getting burned out on that, I'm back to quilting!
I was that way with embroidery i made so many scarfs andpillow cases also different dish towels think everyone in my family got tired of the stuff but it was all hand done i just moved and going through things i came across all that stuff i just slamed the lid back on LOL
When my bf got home last night, I read him what I wrote and all of your funny responses. WE laughed and laughed.
Today it was very foggy here and gloomy so I went fabric shopping:)!!!! Tonight as we finished dinner...the rest of the pizza from the other night...his beeper went off...he works at a hospital and is on call this weekend... I said bye honey I will miss you..he kissed me and laughed..no you won't he said...you just got back from the quilt store and the washer is going,,,you and Bailey have alot to do...Ouch he knows me too well already!!!! Thanks everyone! We all needed a chuckle today! And when I hit burn out I will go back to my scrapbooks!!! Hugs my new friends!!! t |

Don't leave me in suspense!
Hubby pulled out the crock pot and the cord was along the counter, I put the meat etc. in, turned it on and went to
work, looking forward to pot roast all day. Got a call from Hubby when he got home, NOT plugged in. :) First thing I check now is it plugged in. LOl |
OMG you are addicted BIG TIME!!! I think we've all been there before tho.
Shhhhhh, I still do that sometimes. |
Hi,
That is so funny! I know what you mean about being addicted. I dream about fabric and quilting. Karen |
I think you missed something in your daily routine. The same thing I seem to miss every day --- house work. Remember?? Dusting, using vacuum, cleaning bathroom. At my house, that stuff is no longer as important as it use to be. LOL
That is awesome! I love to quilt when DH is gone for the weekend. I get so much done when he isn't there. :-)

Sure sounds like your addicted, like the rest of us. I would quilt a lot more, but love to look at all the quilts, and sewing room pictures here. Keep the addiction, it's good for your soul.
