FRIDAY!!!!! I am so excited. DH planned it and he promises to be patient and even carry all of my bolts for me.

craftybear 03-30-2011 03:50 PM

Wow, have fun maybe you should rent a big truck to haul all of your goodies back home

have fun!!!

Lori S 03-30-2011 03:53 PM

You are going to have so .. much fun! Last time I was there Mary Jo herself cut my fabric. ( Note if you are in a hurry, find someone else to cut.)
I ended up being there for 5 hours, and that did not include the lunch break.

BluegrassGurl 03-30-2011 04:00 PM

I've never heard of Mary Jo's. What/where is it?
Thanks.

quiltpd 03-30-2011 04:02 PM

Oh my goodness, what a great time you will have !! Do you have any idea what you are looking for or just seeing what catches your eye ?

pab58 03-30-2011 04:03 PM

As Scarlet O'Hara would say: I'm "pea green with envy!!!" Have a wonderful time!!!

CorgiNole 03-30-2011 04:42 PM

Have fun. A friend and I went a few weeks ago and my son spent our visit carrying bolts back for the staff to re-shelve them. I brought home a huge addition to my stash.

Cheers, K

Cheers, K

mcdaniel023 03-30-2011 05:06 PM

I am looking for florals, my new favorite, and I want to do "Affairs of the Heart". I know I can probably use stuff from my stash, but DH doesn't know that, so it will be my excuse. ;)

kriscraft99 03-30-2011 05:10 PM

oh how exciting! I live 2 hours from there and it is such a wonderful place :)

be prepared... they don't have buggies, you have to get a paper slip when you walk in at the customer service counter. You grab a few bolts, go get them cut and put the cuts in a hand held basket. Once the basket gets full - check out, take it to the car - go for lunch and then come back :)

it is an amazing place!

have fun

Murphy 03-30-2011 05:59 PM

What a great hubby (smile). Thank you for sharing.

Ann L 03-30-2011 06:31 PM

Great place. About 1.5 hours from here. Don't be in a rush that is for sure. Enjoy

BluegrassGurl 03-30-2011 06:34 PM

mmmm... I just might have to plan a trip to NC. Sounds very interesting.
Thanks.

ChubbyBunny 03-30-2011 06:38 PM

32,000 square feet of fabric and notions.........have fun!!! I'm green with envy. Mary Jo's website has a virtual tour for those not familiar with the store:

CarrieAnne 03-30-2011 06:43 PM

lucky you!

Libster 03-30-2011 06:46 PM

You are going to have a great time there. Just be sure to wear very comfortable shoes! You can't believe there's that much fabric and notions in one place until you see it for yourself. Don't forget to check the scrap boxes at the end of some of the aisles. Have fun!

Cool! Isn't it great when they do something like this out of the blue?

Holice 03-30-2011 07:36 PM

I will be at Mary Jo's about mid morning on Friday.
Wave from across the aisle.

quiltlady1941 03-30-2011 08:28 PM

Oh my goodness I just went on the web site and looked at the inside of Mary Jo's store.

I have got to take a road trip. LOL

What a great way to spend a day.... Wish I lived closer.. oh well...dream on......

scowlkat 03-30-2011 09:19 PM

I've been there one time! The first day my friends and I went, we didn't spend a dime! We were awestruck! However, we made the "mistake" of going back the next day...well, it was a good thing we were in a van!

One word of advice, if you see something you like, buy as much as you can. I got home and decided I'd like a few more yards of a batik and they had already sold it all!

I am so envious! Hope you have a safe and blessed trip.

Minnesewta-sam 03-31-2011 02:08 AM

Love the place! I'll get to go again in a couple weeks when I am in the Carolinas'. Back by the restrooms, there is a table of misc. deals on fabrics...also there are FQ tables in that area for $1. You may have to ask where it is because you can't see it from the bolt area. Have fun!

Thanks for the hint. I hope the weather is better when you get here. We are at the beach and it has been really cold and rainy.

Had to pass it by last week. :-( (Got a late start on our travel time.) I have several big canvas totes, like boat bags. They hold about 10 bolts each. I keep it on the floor next to me, and just drag and fill. When full, I park it next to the cutting counter, and start on another bag. Hubby stays in the van and sleeps most of the time. When it's too hot to veg out in the van, he brings in his computer and occupies one of the few chairs near the rest rooms. Lots more trips scheduled this spring and summer . . . CU there.

bearlea 03-31-2011 04:36 AM

oh you lucky girl...I love MaryJos..we go a couple times a year on our way to Florida...I have to take a tote box in the truck for all my finds...heheheh...have fund and take a list so you don't miss what you really need..heheheh

redmadder 03-31-2011 04:43 AM

I spent the day there with the quilt guild. How did we get all that stuff on the bus?! AS she said, pea green with envy.

QuiltinMama 03-31-2011 04:56 AM

Wear your tennis shoes and bring a list of what you really need.. because you will get blown away and forget what you originally came for!! I used to live in Huntsville Al and I would load up 4 of my girlfriends and we would drive 8 hours to go to Mary Jos... and stay overnite ... loved every minute..bought enough for 4 quilts at one time and my other girlfriend got her daughter's wedding dress fabric and lace there..we had a blast!
Enjoy! (I am so jealous!)
Hugs

That a good idea too! Mary Jo's has everything!

franc36 03-31-2011 07:25 AM

Wow! You are so fortunate. For 14 years I lived near Gastonia and went to Mary Jo's weekly. I love that store! Now I call and order supplies occasionally. They are a wonderful store with which to do business. I have had only great experiences with Mary Jo's.

dilyn 03-31-2011 07:58 AM

I am so blessed to live so close to Mary Jo's! (about 45 minutes away) I cant go there too often or I would be broke. I took my visiting SIL there in February (she is a practicing fabriholic too) and her eyes were bulging as she looked at acres of fabric! There was actually a couple of tour buses there! We had such a wonderful time.

dphelps 03-31-2011 09:20 AM

I am lucky enough to live in Gastonia, close to MaryJo's. I LOVE,LOVE,LOVE it there. I have met and talked with MaryJo and she is a hard working woman. She will tell you that she never buys anything that she would not use herself. Her prices are good and the quality GREAT. LOts of Batiks (take a look at the ones with gold and silver) and lots of novelties. If you are interested in reupholstering, there is plenty of that as well. And of course, bridal and........It just goes on and on. You will have fun. Her fusible pellon is the best price around.Have fun and take plenty of $$$$. Donna

Doreen 03-31-2011 09:42 AM

Good thing that I don't live in N.C.!

sheepla 03-31-2011 09:52 AM

I live 2 miles from Mary Jo's and go about twice a week! I'm so spoiled.

Dolly's sister 03-31-2011 10:00 AM

Truly wonderful store with great prices, was only there once with my DIL who lives in Charlotte,NC. I think that might be a great reason to go see my grandsons, like I need a reason to do that anyway. I will definitely go there again on my next trip.
