Gilla 11-20-2010 11:02 AM

I just tried to order a large can of 505 Spray from Amazon for $15.60 and they jacked up the price with $18.00 shipping. I cannot find it locally and I use it all the time and am out. I tried to Google it, but those who were reasonably priced, tried to make up the difference with high shipping prices. I am in the US, so to charge $18 for less than 1# - 5 to 11 days for delivery is ridiculous.
Any suggestions?

Connecting Threads has the 6.2 oz can for $10.39 plus $3.29 for shipping but delivery is still 7-14 days because it has to go ground delivery. I guess you are trying to get a larger can but maybe this site will help.

WAlMart has a basting spray that I have used & it's quite inexpensive and works just fine. CAn't remember what I paid for it, but I think it's Sullivan's brand. It was under $10.00 & no S&H, just sales tax. Do you have a WalMart near you?

grammiepamie 11-20-2010 02:47 PM

The WalMart brand in June Taylor and I really like it. I have been getting a 12 oz can for 7.97 but apparently they are going to the 10 oz can for the same price.

watterstide 11-20-2010 02:49 PM

i haven't found it cheap anywhere! to avoid shipping your goona have to get it fron a LQS.

connecting threads offers free shipping with $50 purchase!
which makes me an enabler! sorry!

But i do love the stuff!

Nolee 11-20-2010 04:34 PM

I get mine at Jo-Ann and use either the 40% or 50% coupon on it and it comes to $8.00 for a 15-ounce can.

susiequilt 11-20-2010 05:15 PM

Does anyone know about how many large quilts you can do with one large can?

The Post Office does not accept aeresol cans for shipment. Most mail is moved via air and the pressurized can pose a hazard. So this spray has to go via ground transport. That could account for the excessive shipping charges -- perhaps a special carton and ground transport could be more costly because of handling at more transfer points.

hcarpanini 11-21-2010 05:51 AM

Lowes has their own brand. I used it to baste batting to my design wall. About $5 a can.

Gilla 11-21-2010 05:59 AM

I sprayed three quilts, 75x75 largest, with the small can. I have some left, but need more for two WIPs.

OHSue 11-21-2010 07:56 AM

I buy Sullivans, twice the size for half the price.

true4uca 11-21-2010 08:33 AM

I have used Elmer's water soluable spray glue. Much cheaper than the 505 I have used.

chrissy 11-21-2010 08:54 AM

Try Wal-mart.It may be a different brand, but it still works.

Gilla 11-21-2010 10:01 AM

The reason I have stuck with 505 is that it holds. Three months later I can quilt my sandwich and don't have to worry about it moving. Well worth the price. I just object to that darn high shipping charge. Our LQS usually sells it around $13.50 and doesn't charge extra freight, but they are out right now and I want to finish something before Thanksgiving.

And where do you get Sullivans, Sue?

IBQUILTIN 11-21-2010 10:48 AM

Hancock's Fabrics has a good one, and the one from WM is decent. both much cheaper than 505. Good Luck

There was an earlier thread about this and some one said you can order it from Walmart.com. If you do site-to-store, you won't pay shipping charges, but it may take several days to get it.

Or if you have a Ben Franklin crafts, you might find it there. We have a BF and it is $11.99 a can. Which reminds me that I need to pick up another can today.

Kate01 11-21-2010 11:38 AM

I got a can of Elmer's spray adhesive at WalMart, I don't remember what it cost, but was very reasonable. Try it!

quilting grqmmy 11-21-2010 11:41 AM

DO THEY HAVE GOOD PRODUCTS AND ARE THEY RELIEABLE ?

erma bauer 11-21-2010 12:29 PM

i have been using June Taylor basting spray for 12 years. i get it at Joanns or Walmart and i think it is around $10.00, i swear by it even though my friends are still skeptic as to whether it gums up your needle but believe me, i wouldn't use it if it did.

patski 11-21-2010 12:35 PM

I order the Mary Ellen spray from Kmart on line 4 bottles, no shipping cost 1/2 of what it does at the store and it comes to your door

catlover 11-21-2010 04:13 PM

CreateForLess has basting sprays and shipping is reasonable.

THE HIGH SHIPPING PRICE IS BECAUSE OF THE CONTENTS AND THE FACT THAT ITS AN AEROSOL CAN. HAS TO BE SHIPPED GROUND FOR SAFETY REASONS.

I purchased a case of the 17oz 505 awhile back and it was $154 and the shipping was FREE if you ordered over $149. The red cans look like they are marketed for European buyers. The directions are in English, Spanish, French and Italian. But the product is the same. I prefer the 505 as it seems to take less to baste a quilt and it seems to hold longer.

Dee 11-21-2010 09:18 PM

I buy mine from Wally or connecting threads. I don't find any difference in the cheaper. I think they all do the same thing.
