I have an island in the center of my kitchen and I do most of my cutting on it.

Ok. I just finished some cutting on the kitchen counter-top and think that is going to do it for me. It's a great height. If I see I can do this quilting thing I will eventually get my husband to build me some sort of table. THANKS!

Have your DH cut some pvc plastc to place under your table legs (if you have the long foldup kind) Seen this done at a church where ladies were making apple dumplings!Yum

I'm also 5' 1" and have trouble with my back from bending over too much - so I can relate :) Years ago I purchased a Sullivans Home Hobby Table - if you Google it you'll see what I'm talking about. Perfect height for me to cut and also works well for layering my quilts for quilting.

I second the suggestion of the bed risers. I cut, and iron, on a kitchen table in my basement. The bed risers made the height just perfect for me-no more back pain bending over cutting. They were maybe $9 at Walmart. The president of our quilting guild turned me on to them.

I use my ironing board as I can adjust it to the high I need.

my chest freezer is where I do my cutting.....sometimes the dryer

I cut on the floor, and I also set my quilt frames to a height so that I can sit on the floor to quilt. I also cut my fabric on the floor.
