I would have told her to look up alterations in the phone book.

I think you handled it well.

My dear DH asked to have a pair of jeans altered and I reluctantly said OK. Unfortunately, my mind must have wandered because one leg ended up being 1 inch shorter than the other. He came into my sewing room with this look of confusion on his face and I burst out laughing. Luckily after he got over the disappointment of my having messed up his jeans, we laughed about it. To this day, when he overhears someone ask me if I hem pants he gets that funny look on his face remembering his jeans. My girls teased him for days about the "Erkel" pants and told him to walk with one leg on the curb and the other on the street and no one would notice or only walk on slanted streets. It was a hoot. I felt real badly about it and now am super careful when I hem his pants, but every time he gets a new pair of jeans, he has that look on his face. LOL

when I was a teachers aide, we used staplers. Bet she'd get a kick out of that. lol

i would have said its cheaper to take it to the cleaners.
the cleaners will do it for $5 each while i would expect 5 times that since i'm an artist not a tailor. |
My typical response is "I don't do clothes, just quilts."

Once I took a class on alternations thinking I would like doing them better. Well I was wrong!
I always feel a little bad when someone ask me to do hems, zippers, ect. & I make an excuse not to. |
sometimes with neighbors, its a question of what they do for you. End result IF it warrants me doing it,---I make them come with & wait.By the time they have to sit there, while I cut, double up , change thread, move my quilting back& forth, AND explain each step----It's EASIER to go else where next time. LOL!!
