What am I to do????????????????????????? I just want to cry.
I even have to lay magazine on the table to look at. I am really whining. POOOOOOOOOOOr me...
At least I can watch and enjoy your works :-(

CoventryUK 01-08-2011 10:19 AM

ooooh that sounds really painful!! So sorry to hear of your fall. Sending you good wishes for your surgery and a full recovery!

jbud2 01-08-2011 10:20 AM

I'd start using the hand on the opposite side now while I have some control yet.

Dina 01-08-2011 10:23 AM

Bless your heart! Can you possible do some small hand sewing? That might help. Maybe you will just have to get your sewing fix here with us. Or you could PLAN projects from your stash. That could help...

I am so sorry this happened to you. My mother had this particular surgery quite successfully, so I know you will do fine with it. The sooner the surgery, the sooner you can really sew though!!

Hang in there. I feel for you.

running1 01-08-2011 10:23 AM

I am very sorry to hear about your injury!! I've not sustained this injury, but I know as a physical therapist assistant that you have been in pain... We will be thinking of you and praying for a quick recovery after surgery. Please do what your doctor orders and what your therapist requests!! You can make an amazing recovery and be back to sewing and all the activities you enjoy even stronger. I'll be praying also for patience and perseverance!

laceybritt 01-08-2011 10:24 AM

I'm sorry that happened to you. Watch plenty of quilting shows.
Wishing you a speedly recovery.

Raggiemom 01-08-2011 10:33 AM

I'm so sorry. Maybe re-organzie your sewing area and plan a bunch of projects?

Jim's Gem 01-08-2011 10:38 AM

When I had my shoulder(s) done (3 times) I spent a lot of time looking at patterns and magazines and planning out some of the quilts that I wanted to make.
Last Christmas, with my arm in a sling I was able to do some sewing. I did all my cutting before surgery, even used a bali pop that I had won, and with my (right) arm in the sling I could still feed fabrics into my sewing machine. I have a great sewing desk and it was the perfect height that my hand was at to be able to feed into the machine.
Take care though, you do not want to overdo it!!!!!

I know exactly what you are going through. I had ot have hand surgery in May. I put it off for a couple of years as she said it would take over a year to heal. I couldn't do a darn thing for about 4 months. Then everytime I would try to quilt it would hurt so bad I would have to quit. Just be patient it will get better. I am finally able to quilt for a couple hrs at a time. Think fo all the time you can spend here. I didn't even know about the Quilting Board when I was disabled. Good luck and heal fast...

merry 01-08-2011 10:45 AM

You poor thing. That is just terrible! I cannot imagine. I sure hope you mend quickly!

amma 01-08-2011 11:03 AM

So sorry to hear this! I have had this surgery too, the waiting for surgery and recovery time is tedious, but you will love the end results  :D:D:D

raptureready 01-08-2011 11:03 AM

That's sounds painful! I hope you're better soon and heal quickly.

Vicki W 01-08-2011 11:04 AM

Hopefully your therapist will be like mine. He encouraged me to use my shoulder as much as possible ( I have frozen shoulder but it is slowly getting better). He indicated that if I had stopped doing things it would get worst. I still don't have full extention of the right arms but my pain continues to lessen with use. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

wolfkitty 01-08-2011 11:05 AM

I'm so sorry that you got hurt! Best wishes for a speedy recovery and patience while mending!

Iluv2quilt 01-08-2011 11:09 AM

Faith Taylor 01-08-2011 02:51 PM

I had a client who had the same condition. She had surgery, but it didn't help her. She said she wished she had gone to a specialist somewhere else. We live in a small town.

Sure hope yours turns out just right! Prayers will go up for you!

Kate01 01-08-2011 03:54 PM

Oh, so sorry to hear of your accident. I understand how you feel about not being able to sew for a while. I am facing a hip replacement and I will have to spend some time in a re-hab facility and they don't allow sewing machines!

My prayers are with you to have a speedy and successful recovery.

Stitchnripper 01-08-2011 04:19 PM

sorry to hear about your shoulder. Wish you a quick recovery. In the meantime, if you can use the internet, you can make yourself feel better by ordering fabric.

Been there, done that...and possibly looking at doing it again. I had shoulder surgery in Nov 2010 to repair rotaor cuff and remove 3" clavicle bone from a previous fall/surgery in 2007. Well, all was well, until I wiped out on the ice 2 days before Christmas. I have separated the same shoulder with lateral damage... needless to say I'm not happy...possibly going to weight it down and have a sling for 6 wks. My only suggestions are...i) lots of magazines, ii) a couple of really good books, iii) a few good movies, iv) some really boring documentaries to help you sleep and finally, your computer. The QB people have been my salvation over the past 2.5 months. Plus I also did the Fabshophop to kill sometime. But, the QB is the best and there was/is always alot to read, ponder, research and drool over on this site. Good Luck!

liminanc 01-09-2011 02:45 AM

So sorry to hear about your injury. I had a pinched nerve that had me not doing any sewing for about a year. It is tough. Maybe you could look at fabric catalogs to cheer you up for when you can quilt again. Good luck with the surgery and keep us posted.

salisaquilter 01-09-2011 06:57 AM

Quilterella. I am really sorry for your fix. Much worse than mine.... I know you have had a lot more pain. Will take your suggestions under advisement and I know I will be on the Board a lot.

winipb2 01-09-2011 07:09 AM

I know what you are going through. I fell a number of years ago and broke the rotator in 3 places and as a result I have a very long pin in my arm. I was told that it would be 18 months before I could move my elbow about six inches from my body and to never expect to use the arm again. Well! I had my kids put my closet rod up 6 inches higher than normal and I would (after healing) hold a hanger in my right (damaged side) hand and gently use my left hand to push my right elbow up. I did lots of little life things like that. I a very pleased to show anyone who will look that I can put my right arm up and lay it across my head and touch my right ear. At that time of my life I was pouring firing and painting porcelain dolls. No I could not pour or handle the molds nor could I clean the greenware but I sure did learn to paint and write with my left hand. My point here is do not give in to what you can not do. Improvise and go on enjoying life. Sorry if this sounds like a lecture I mean it as encouragement. Wini
