I'm sooo excited and I knew you all would understand it. I bought a "real" sewing machine today- my 1st. I've been sewing all this time with a very old Singer...she did a good job and I will keep her, but she just won't do what I'd like to do now that I'm growing (maybe) as a quilter.

I can't wait to play with her or him (can't tell yet) tonight and tomorrow just to see all it can do. It is a combo embroidery/sewing machine...so a whole new world for me to play in. I have my 1st class on Saturday, so I'll just play a little until then. I got them to throw in a 1/4" foot to sweeten the deal...so my blocks should look great now!

I'm going to play now...see u all later!

mgshaw 07-30-2008 01:25 PM

That is wonderful!

Louise C 07-30-2008 02:34 PM

By any chance, would it be the Singer Quantum Futura??? I got one from my darling last Mothers' Day.

sandpat 07-30-2008 03:56 PM

I can't seem to wipe the huge smile off my face :D . Ok, here's the scoop, its a Bernina 200E, so it embroiders and sews. It has so many features that it might even cook and clean (although I haven't seen the attachments for that yet). It has all the cool features like auto threader, auto thread cutter..a nice large table surface to sew on, front loading bobbin and a thing I love--a knee pressure thingie that lifts the pressure foot. It also has the stitch regulator on it which I think I will like, but I have to get used to that. It has 3 hoop sizes...I don't know anything about embroidery....yet :D They say I can design, edit and save designs right on the machine. It has a USB stick with more designs and also a CD/ROM that I can either download designs from the web onto that and then plug it directly into the machine...so no funky fiddlin' around with design files. To tell ya' the truth, I don't even know what all it will do right now...I can't wait to take it slowly and work through all the things to do. I really can't wait to use that silly 1/4" foot! I'm about as excited about that as anything!!

3incollege 07-30-2008 04:33 PM

Was this from the fav store in Jackson?
After the weather cools, I want to meet you in Jackson for lunch and quilt shop...
This hot weather kicks my butt! 102 degrees here today, and hubby is cutting the grass!!!

I do good to move from sofa to recliner, but I am cooking fresh butterbeans I just shelled.

I know you are in for some exciting sewing/embroidery. I have the Bernina 180 e, I love doing towels and especially cup towels and pillowcases. I always have a 'few' gifts on hand ! I like the big, cotton, old fashioned cup towels, they are not easy to fine (or cheap), but worth the hunt. My last gift was a travel suit bag, used a bright, floral denium fabric, put her name on it - she loved it. One spring, I made 50 something towels for my daughter to give as graduation gifts ! I was sure glad to finish that project.

bearpaw 07-31-2008 08:49 AM

Congrats!! It's so exciting to get a new machine! I think I was smiling for days after I got mine. You are going to have so much fun sewing without worrying about tension problems, etc. Have fun and enjoy it!

Patti -
I hope you love your new machine. I have a B 630e and an old B 930, both of which I love. My husband has done most of the embroidery, so I am on a long learning curve. Good luck in your classes.

Congratulations what a lovely new toy. Its great that you are having lessons that helps a bunch. You will love the embroidery feature. I can set mine up and go and make a cup of tea while it embroiders me something real pretty. Hasten to add not if it has load of different colours cause then it stops and asks you to put a different colour in. There is a gorgeous butterfly on my machine and its been done to death. :D :D

Elle

sandpat 08-02-2008 04:49 PM

Oh Elle, I know it! I went to class today and learned a bunch. Now, I'll play all weekend and be looking for some free files to download too. Gee...those things are EXPENSIVE!!! Do they think we are made of $$$$???
