I can't believe...

Tuesday night I was just getting ready to change the my rotary cutter blade when my sister called. After visiting with her I went back to my sewing room and during the time I was on the phone my cat had knocked the new blade on the floor. I was barefoot and yup, stepped on it and had to get six stitches. Lesson learned--don't interrupt the process of changing blades and getting rid of the old ones, for any reason at all.

quiltingcandy 08-30-2012 09:50 AM

Ouch - that hurt just thinking about it.

quiltsRfun 08-30-2012 10:24 AM

I feel for you. How's your kitty?

nativetexan 08-30-2012 11:08 AM

Oh your poor baby. and i was worrying about stepping on my lost straight pin!!

luvstoquilt 08-30-2012 12:55 PM

Oh...I know that hurt!!! I hope you get well fast!

SallySaidSew 08-30-2012 01:02 PM

Ouch! Hope your incision heals quickly. Thanks for the important tip.

dunster 08-30-2012 01:51 PM

So sorry - hope it heals soon.

faykilgore 08-30-2012 02:12 PM

Wow, even the old ones are viciously sharp. I bet that went deep. It's always the cat's fault around here.

sherryt1258 08-30-2012 02:16 PM

So sorry that happened. I slice into my finger with one and it was not a pretty sight. Take care.

lynnie 08-30-2012 02:18 PM

Yikes...
I guess you joined the club.
i had a few quilting accidents...
and people say quilting is boring.
hope your feeling better soon.

IndigoQuilter 08-30-2012 02:31 PM

Oh no, heal up quickly!

paulswalia 08-30-2012 02:49 PM

I bet nobody asks for photos! So sorry this happened - hope you didn't bleed on any fabric!

wolph33 08-30-2012 03:24 PM

ouch.sorry about your boo-boo but thanks for sharing so we do not do the same thing.

MattieMae 08-30-2012 03:24 PM

Oh, that darn cat! But of course he wasn't the one who left the blade laying around. Oh, that darn quilter!

susie-susie-susie 08-30-2012 04:00 PM

So sorry to hear that--it must have really hurt. It's always the cat's fault!!! I noticed that the cat didn't get hurt, or did you leave that part out. lol

I did something similar. Lesson learned and now I wear slip ons till I get to sewing.. can't sew with shoes.. have to be bare foot..

alisonquilts 08-30-2012 04:51 PM

My jaw dropped open as I read that! Youch!!

I hope you heal quickly. (At least it wasn't your hand...but was it your pedal foot?!!?)

Alison

LyndaOH 08-30-2012 05:32 PM

Feel better and stay ahead of the pain! Tylenol, tylenol, tylenol, and maybe some Aleve.

scrapngmom 08-30-2012 05:37 PM

Paulswalia: I was standing next to my stash and refused to grab any of it and bled all over my beige carpet (which will cost a lot more to replace). I just couldn't bring myself to use any of my fabric

scrapngmom 08-30-2012 05:39 PM

thank you everyone for the well wishes. No the cat didn't get punished. It was my fault for leaving the blade unattended. And yes, it is my pedal foot. Oh well, a lesson learned the hard way won't be forgotten soon.

patsynel 08-30-2012 05:43 PM

Hope your foot is feeling better.

lfstamper 08-30-2012 05:43 PM

Ouch - man that is not good. Hope the stitches heal quickly.

Ahh, a true quilter! Save the stash! On the serious side, I hope you heal quickly, and feel better soon.

I was at my sister's once helping with a quilt when I noticed that she had left her rotary cutter open! I told her that is a quilter's sin, and what would have happened if one of her grandkids got a hold of it?

nursie76 08-30-2012 07:12 PM

So sorry for your mishap. Hope it heals well with not problem. I'll bet it hurts like the dickens! Healing thoughts coming your way!

Jim's Gem 08-30-2012 08:09 PM

Ouch!!! My Dh did that once with "salsa" chopper blade. Not good!!!

Hi Scrapngmom,
I feel for you. I have always taken my shoes off to sew, so I have had my share of foot hurts too. Hope you foot feels better soon.

MimiBug123 08-31-2012 09:09 AM

OUCHY!!!!!! I can only imagine how that hurt. Maybe we need to start a list of ways to damage your body while quilting. I'm sure there would be some tall tales in that volume! Hope you get better soon!

Yes, I did that, too. I was running the cutter along a piece of aluminum foil (having heard it "sharpens" the blades) and ran it right into my left forefinger. I was able to close the cut with butterfly strips but now understand wearing quilter's gloves when cutting (though I still don't have those gloves).

pokeyscorner 08-31-2012 01:08 PM

:(sorry to hear of your accident. It set my teeth on edge. I did something a long time ago & so can feel your pain. I put my lg Olfa (locked) in the back pocket of my jeans & went on several errands (in & out of car) last stop it nailed my posterior. & cut my jeans. Cushioned so didn't bleed in the car. Hope you heal fast & if you can't quilt can use the time to come up w/ new ideas for future quilts. When the foot is ready of course.

LoisM 08-31-2012 02:14 PM

I winced in pain just reading that! I'm so sorry that happened to you.

quiltingweb 08-31-2012 02:28 PM

yeeeooooowch. Hope you heal soon. I've warned my kids, and they think I'm kidding, that they are so sharp that they won't even feel it cut until it's too late. Thanks for the warning.

tiptrinket 08-31-2012 04:31 PM

Ouch! I hope you heal quickly!

karate lady 08-31-2012 04:49 PM

did that one day too. am much more careful now when I am cutting.
