Quilting is fraught with dangers! (wink, wink). I was taking a straight pin from the container and I came out with two, one between my fingers as planned and the other under my nail, not quite so planned! :) I think quilting should be classified as an extreme 'sport' :D

I have that same Olfa cutter and love it. I never thought of putting it blade side down. Good idea. I figured since it was in the closed position I'd be safe. Thanks for the post.

When I slit my finger with it, the tetanus shot hurt worse. However, saying that, all of "us" quilters need to make sure our tetanus shots are current. They last 10 years so I am covered now. With all the fabric coming from everywhere on earth now, the doctor said that shot is very important to all of us. After all was said and done, that slit really hurt and cost me $650.00 at the emergency room and just think.....all the fabric I could have bought....sigh.

I have a clutch glove from JoAnne's and wear it all the time.

Sorry you got hurt. I have yet to join that club. I guess I worry about it so much that I pick it up and put it down very carefully. Same for the iron. I've known two people who got burned so I keep it in mind every time I turn the thing on.

Yep, I had it closed but laying with the blade side up! Funny thing is, those slice cuts don't heal real fast. I took the bandaid off the day after and it bled again. At least I didn't have to go to the ER - a big expense saved! $650.00 is a lot of fabric! Guess we can never be too careful.

Fiskars only for me, too, Jingle. Love them --have a bad habit of leaving them open though. I'm just going to put them there for a second and then use them again. Am fortunate--no accidents, yetttttt.

Been there, done that, as I just did something similar last week, but fortunately it wasn't a bad cut. Rotary cutters could be considered lethal weapons if you're not paying attention. A friend of mine had hers drop onto her foot and needed stitches on a couple toes, not fun.
