I can't believe it!

I was working in my sewing room today, and my rotary cutter was on the table on my right side. I have the Olfa ergonomic cutter that closes when you put it down. I lifted my hand from the pattern I was using and my hand unknowingly skimmed over the blade of the rotary cutter. Even though it was closed I got a slice on my finger and had to run for a bandaid! So cutters can be dangerous even when you think you're safe! Just thought I'd post a warning to all other quilters.

I think rotary cutters have a mind of their own, and sometimes they are just out to get you. At least you just needed a band aid, and not stitches.!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad you only needed a band-aid!

Yikes! I'm glad it wasn't worse!

I don't have an olfa rotary cutter, just the looks of them scare me. I only use fiskars.

I have the cutter which stays in the off position until you press the handle. Did you manage to cut yourself because you left it face-up so that one scary side of the blade was exposed?

I am careful about pressing the red button to get it locked, so if I drop it it won't open on me, but I never thought about putting it so the blade side is down.

I am so so sorry you were injured and I hope the bandaid does the trick. Part of the pain is wanting to kick yourself, right? :) That's how I feel when I do something dumb like stab myself with a pin or get a finger in the way of the iron...

Best,
Sue

Yes, happy that it was only a band-aid you needed.

well tell that rotary cutter that it will become a Pizza cutter if it doesn't behave!!

I got a pocket potholder and put over the top of my rotary cutters. I use another one to stick in the rotary in when I'm using that particular one on a project but keep it to where I can just shove it in the pocket. I made myself get used to using it that way especially since I had a close call the other day. I'm on blood thinners and don't need that kind of fun. The pocket potholders just look like square mits.
