I'm "sew" excited!!!! My husband just asked me to teach him how to sew, so that he could make a scrappy quilt. I told him sure, but I will have to buy a new machine because I only have one. What do you think? Was that a good response? LOL! I will post pics if I get a new machine...LOL!

tucsonquilter 08-11-2011 04:23 PM

Great answer because you dont want a newbie on your good machine....or you want the newbie on your old machine so you can buy a new machine...either way a new machine is needed!

Fabaddict 08-11-2011 04:23 PM

Perfect!!!!

mom-6 08-11-2011 04:24 PM

Sounds like the perfect response to me!!!

Alex J 08-11-2011 04:24 PM

That is great news on both counts, Congrats

Quiltinggma-nc 08-11-2011 04:34 PM

Sounds like a good trade off to me. He learns to sew and you get a new machine.

SharBear 08-11-2011 04:36 PM

Also, he'll totally understand needing a new machine. After all, every time my husband undertakes a new project a trip to the hardware store for a new tool is required!

dunngriffith 08-11-2011 04:39 PM

wonderful!!

SharBear 08-11-2011 04:42 PM

BTW ... I was almost reluctant to open this thread when I saw the title!!!

Grannymom 08-11-2011 04:46 PM

or - get him a Singer 15, or 66 or 201 - he can't hurt it... and it would work great for him (my DH made his first quilt on a 15)

Ruby the Quilter 08-11-2011 05:01 PM

sounds like a smart move!

pocoellie 08-11-2011 05:03 PM

Sounds like a great guy you have. Of course, he needs his OWN machine. LOL

redquilter 08-11-2011 05:08 PM

You're a very smart lady!

Crabby Patty 08-11-2011 05:12 PM

Boy, that sounds like a win, win situation for you no matter which way you go. Good for you.hehe

katier825 08-11-2011 05:22 PM

You should make him buy you a featherweight! LOL

dunster 08-11-2011 05:27 PM

I would get him hooked first, and then he would see the need for a new machine on his own. (It always seems to work out better when they think it's their idea.) ;-)

 I was ready for almost anything in this post! I didn't know what to expect!

beaniekins 08-11-2011 05:37 PM

Lucky you! My husband does know some basic sewing, but he leaves most of it to me. He is very appreciative of the things I make and supportive of my quilting, so I feel very blessed to have him around.

carrieg 08-11-2011 05:40 PM

My first thought was he asked you to Mend something! LOL This is better. Although you may be sorry.....

BellaBoo 08-11-2011 05:44 PM

My last wish would be for my DH to ask me that! I would tell him to go sign up for a beginner quilt class and then we could talk about separate sewing rooms. LOL

Joanie2 08-11-2011 06:06 PM

My gosh, if my husband asked me to teach him to sew I think I'd fall over from shock. I hope he enjoys spending time with you doing something you love. And what's better than buying a new machine! Just think, now you'll be hitting the fabric shops with a whole new prospective. I envy you. Would love for my DH to become more interested in my love of quilting.

blueangel 08-11-2011 06:13 PM

That's great that he wants to learn to sew.

Painiacs 08-11-2011 06:23 PM

Cool!

Annaquilts 08-11-2011 06:25 PM

Hmmm I think you need a Feather weight or Singer 301. LOL My DH sews on a Singer 301 vintage machine.

Snorky Lvs2Quilt 08-11-2011 06:27 PM

You go girl!!! ..... and what was his response to the new machine request?

julia58 08-11-2011 06:34 PM

Have fun.

Scakes 08-11-2011 06:36 PM

Good answer. What did he say?

3incollege 08-11-2011 06:37 PM

make sure it's a machine you like. Have fun with your hubby.

ManiacQuilter2 08-11-2011 06:40 PM

In college during the technical theater class that my boyfriend attended with me, I was finally given the position of Master carpenter, He usually was appointed to THAT position. So I assign him to sew the back drops on a very old sewing machine for the set that we were going to build. I told him to think of it as a power tool. It is very important that you sew VERY straight seams on the long lengths of muslin since puckers will be noticeable due to the theatre lighting. He ended up doing an excellent and accurate job!!

emsgranny 08-11-2011 06:42 PM

Now thats a win win situation!!!

nursie76 08-11-2011 06:49 PM

That is soooo awesome! My DH takes such an interest in my quilting and has found he likes to collect older machines. He cleans them and tries to collect all the parts and accessories. I told him he needs to learn to quilt....he says, maybe someday, we will see. We found some small quilt kits on sale at A C Moores the other day, and he bought one. BUT it just sits there. Ah well, maybe soon.

So nice that you DH wants to learn. And of course you need a new machine! You have to have an extra now!

He said he would just use one of my old machines.....well, I gave my 2 inexpensive Brothers to my stepdaughter and my sister-in-law, my old (about 20years)Singer hasn't been touched in 15 years and it won't run and he's not touching my Viking...LOL, although there is an old 1908 Singer treadle in the garage that I paid $20 for at a garage sale about 10 years ago. He promised to clean and refinish it for me but that hasn't happened....maybe there is another opportunity here....Hmmmmm???

mzmama 08-11-2011 08:23 PM

Sounds like a plan to me.

jemma 08-11-2011 08:25 PM

gold medal for your response but lock up your stash

SueDor 08-12-2011 02:24 AM

Of course he would have to have a new machine. Better yet give him yours and you get the new machine.

My husband asked me the same thing 12 years ago, and he hasn't stopped yet. It is wonderful...he doesn't mind what I buy and when on a car trip, we stop at all the shops along the way. I have really enjoyed it and look forward to the years to come.

Krystyna 08-12-2011 03:19 AM

That is so exciting! It is always wonderful to share a passion with your spouse and I'm sure this is going to open new avenues for you both. Congratulations!

Scrap Happy 08-12-2011 03:19 AM

 :-D This will be so much fun for both of you! Congrats on bringing another quilter into the quilting world.
