I can't find spray starch in any store in my area.
I found Sta Flo liquid at Walmart but spay starch is off the shelves in all the stores that usually have it. I have a gallon of Best Press but prefer the spray starch. Niagara bought out Faultless so is the company not making as much? Who knows. The last cans I found were at The Dollar Tree. Odd brand but works fine. Even they are out online and in the store. Anyone notice if spray starch is hard to find in their area?

Whenever I can't find something (or even if I can) I go to Amazon.
They have what you're looking for. |
I checked Amazon but it is very over priced for spray starch. But I had a notice of a price change for the rotary cutter blades I use, price dropped a lot. Amazon got my money after all. LOL
|
I found spray starch on walmart's web site.
|
I make my own spray starch using the Sta-flo liquid starch. Put the starch mixture in a spray bottle and you are good to go. The directions are on the jug, but just in case, here they are. For spraying: Mix one part Sta-flo with two parts water in pump-type spray bottle.
|
I have not found starch in the bottles in over 9 months. I now buy the stayflo and call it a day works just fine and is cheaper too, more money for fabric!
|
I won't pay $5 a can online. I'll use the Sta Flo. I'll add vodka to the Sta Flo and see how that works out. I keep a bottle of cheap vodka for baking, excellent for thin pastry.
My husband went to Walmart and I asked him to buy me a bottle of Sta Flo. He came back with four 1/2 gallon jugs. Said this stuff is cheap and the stocker said they were not getting it on the last trucks that came in. $2.49 a half gallon. I have enough for my guilting buddies. But they probably have as much as me by now too. LOL We all use starch before cutting fabric. |
I didn't like having a residue left on my iron or fabric when I used spray starch so make my own using the liquid Sta-Flo and put it in my spray bottle. Seems to not leave the residue this way.
|
I mixed half Sta Flo and half water and put in a mister bottle. It gives a nice starch finish. I found a box of Argo powder starch in my laundry room closet. I have never used powdered starch before. My mother always used it but she did all the ironing. She liked to iron. She said no one bothered her when she was ironing. LOL
|
Have you tried somewhere like Dollar General, Family Dollar, or Target? I live so far out that if I don't want to make the trip to Walmart for starch, I get what I need at one of the places listed above because they are convenient.
|
Wow, it WAS a lot more on Amazon. I just ordered some on Walmart's website. I needed a few things so I got the free shipping.
Thanks for reminding me that I needed some. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png |
A while back, I couldn't find spray starch here. I bought some liquid starch, diluted it and put it in a Best Press bottle. It worked so well, I never have bought another spray starch. It's a lot less expensive, too.
|
I have checked every store that may sell starch. No can spray starch on the shelves. Big Lots manager said it was hit or miss if any came on the truck. Several employees at the stores said they never heard of spray starch. LOL
|
I passed it by at one of the big box warehouse type store. The one where you need a member card to shop. It was packaged with 3 cans to a pack and equaled about 2.00 and change per can.
|
It’s in the stores around here
|
For all you North East Ohio quilters, I have found that Heinin's grocery stores carry a good selection of starch, spray cans, pump bottles and Sta Flo.
Would you all believe that my son and DIL don't even own an iron? No wonder starch is getting hard to find. |
I checked Sam's Club here and no starch. Ugh.
|
I used to buy the non-aerosol Niagra starch, that stuff was awesome and smelled great. But they quit making it. :(

I know both my kids have irons. Probably never used. I really can't blame them, I can't remember the last time I ironed clothing.

My girls spray wrinkle release on casual clothes and toss in dryer for few minutes.
|
Just back from the “little Kroger” and three varieties of faultless Niagara. I guess Faultless bought Niagara. I’m not a big starch user and have a couple cans and a spray but got another just in case.
I enjoy ironing. We don’t have many clothes that need it but it isn’t a chore for me. |
Odd how it is in some areas and not others. I guess it will get here eventually. I really Magic Sizing too but haven't seen it in more then a year here.

I detest ironing clothes! Part of the problem is that I have no good place to do it. I have a square pad on my cutting table for pressing blocks; if I have a lot of yardage or a back or top that needs to be pressed, I get out the big board, but don't leave it up. No room. Why is it that the cooler woven tops I like in the summer need to be ironed? Hot plus more heat and steam. Ugh.
No shortage of Niagara spray @ the local WM's as yet. I wish that they had not discontinued the gallon size and did email them, but got no response. :( Has anyone seen this anywhere, or tried it? I'm considering ordering some. It is available as a aerosol or trigger spray. https://store.faultlessbrands.com/co...crafting-spray The description makes me think it is like Best Press - removes wrinkles, flattens seams.... For additional stiffness, spray and press again. |
When we lived in a small townhouse and I sewed in a tiny "breakfast nook", I found a drop down ironing board the mounted on the wall. It was great. No more dragging out the big ironing board except on rare occasion. I could just let the ironing board down, use it and then fold it back up. Easy peasy
|
Went to the local Target yesterday. Plenty of Niagara spray starch. I'm going to check every store from now on.
|
Argo also makes corn starch which is used in cooking. It can also be used when doing laundry or ironing. If one has grease spots on clothing if you dust well with corn starch and rub or brush it in well it does a lot to absorb the grease. I use it by dusting over the spot, rubbing it in with a clothes brush, or even passing the iron over it and then brushing it out. In many cases you can no long see the grease. This can also be done before washing the garment. I am speaking of cooking grease and not machinery type.

This could be like Terial Magic Spray. |
Look to see if they have the "Downy Wrinkle Release" that is what I use for ALL my ironing
including my quilting. Totally love how this stuff works. |
I have been using wrinkle releaser too. It works great to flatten a seam I put the liquid in a misting bottle for all over coverage.
|
Does anyone use "Flatter" in a spray bottle to flatten intersecting seams? It does seem to work.

I have a bottle of Flatter and it's a great spray. I buy a bottle when I see it in a quilt shop. Not many sell it. Flatter does not leave press marks on solids. Terial Magic makes fabric stiff. From crisp to paper firm according how you use it. I use it when I have a lot of bias cuts.
|
I use Best Press and spray starch depending on the situation but I could only find the Faultless 'Luxe' version at Kroger. It smells AWFUL!!!!! I have used the Faultless Premium Firm Finish for years and it is no where to be found except at a stupid price online likely because it has been discontinued. I even called the Faultless customer service number and got voicemail and no call back. I may have to change to the Sta Flo. First world problems.
|
I tried the Faultless Crafting Spray and I like it. More body then Best Press. The cost per bottle is ridiculous. I ordered two one gallon jugs from MSQC when there was a 30% off sale and free shipping and I had enough points to get it for almost nothing.
Spray starch can't be found in any store in my area. Sta Flo can't be found either. Walmart was the last to have it and it hasn't been in the stores here for over a year. Starch is not a problem worth fretting over but it's surprising that it has suddenly disappeared. |
I use Faultless Heavy Duty.and it is available in stores near me. I did learn to use a water mist during the lock down when starch spray was missing from the shelves. I use much less starch now, but in some instances, like bias edges, it is really needed. I was gifted some Best Press but haven't used it yet. Keeping it as back up for when I run out of my Faultless, I guess.:)
