I buy my ink from 4inkjets.com. I have a hp photosmart and they sell the the extra large capacity size. I do a lot of printing and the cartridiges lasted just over 2 years! I bought reconditioned and they work great..the bill for 2 black XL and 1 color XL was $38.00. They have a 10% off coupon and free shipping. They had an ad on quiltboard yesterday. They sell all brands new and reconditioned. Hope this helps I see the ad below.. |

The printer isn't worth fixing. I'm going to buy a new one after the first of the month, but, I still have a job to do. Hmmm. I brought the pattern up onto the screen; measured to see that the 1" on the screen was 1" that I measured. Yes, it is. I taped up a piece of tracing paper over the monitor and used a fine tipped marker to register the points. After I took it off the monitor, I connected the dots, and wrote in the piecing order. Needed 4 copies of this and 4 copies mirror imaged. Stapled around the edges of 8 pieces of tracing paper and sewed on top of the fine lines with an old dull needle, unthreaded. I also lengthened the stitch to a baste. Voila! Flip over 4 of them and marked them correspondingly. You can't outsmart me, you, you printer thing you! R.I.P. |
Thanks for the instructions in your explanation. If ever I am away somewhere and need to copy a pattern I could use this idea. Wouldn't even need the monitor.
Also, another idea is that I have a FW and the card table that it fits into. I can remove the FW, put a piece of plexiglass (which I have) over the cut out area, put a small lamp on the floor with the light shining up and trace whatever I want. The light makes the pattern show through. You could do this til you get a new printer if you have the wherewithall. I also use it for tracing patterns onto material to do redwork.

Good for you!! :D

You go girl.
|
You go girl! I had a great laugh with your story. I love to be challenged to think out of the box.
|
I never would have thought of that! Good thinking! Can't wait to see your finishedwork!
|
Good thinking!

Good thinking....isn't it just amazig though that you can buy a printer so cheaply....I think my new 3 in 1 cost me $50 bucks when I bought my new puter...so I don't expect it to last all that long.
|
Cheers!!!!

You are smarter than the average bear. That's what I like...someone who thinks outa the box an doesn't let a roadblock out smart them :P
|
Aren't printer fun. Great save.
|
You one smart gull

I use refillable ink cartridges for my epsons. I also use a program called Cute PDF writer to save patterns and such rather than convert everything to dead trees, That still gives me the option to print them on paper when it is time to make them.

I have to say I got a good laugh from your post. This is absolutely no insinuation on your hair color (I don't even know what color hair you have) but it reminds me of the joke about the blond who put white-out on the computer screen to make her corrections.

LOVE IT~~~~~

Good for you! Necessity is the mother of invention!

Aren't we glad printers have come down in price? My Kodak ISO or IOS (whatever) cost $99. it's color, scanner, copier. That was at least 2 yrs ago. Now I understand they're more likely to be 50-60 dollars. We do live in a throwaway society.

NECESSITY is the Mother of Invention.

Aren't you the smart one. Congratulations!!!!!!

I'll bet you're one of those folks who goes to the hardware store and sees a whatchamacallit and says..."Hmmm I wonder how this can help me with my quilting" |
Score one for the quilter side. You can also be a Techy when you need to be.

I bought a new printer/scanner in the Walmart blitz before Christmas. The thought being when the old printer ran out of ink, I would install the new one. Guess what..Right..the old printer is still working it's little 'head' off. But I thought I saw maybe a little skip last time I printed. Maybe soon I will get the new printer installed on the computer in the sewing room.

Smart thinking.....

Resourceful!!! LOL!!

Ingenuity is a wonderful thing. Quick thinking! Who said that quilting didn't make you a more creative thinker?

I have the Kodak 3250...I think that's what it is. It has print, scan, and copy ability. The ink is also $9 for the black ink and $27 for color ink. I buy my ink online at Amazon.com. I use 4inkjets as the supplier. You can get multiples of black ink and color ink for less than the Kodak individual ink cartridges. Also, if you get a Staples reward card, like I did, you can recycle those cartridges (doesn't matter according to the Staples I use) for a $2 reward/cartridge. You can recycle ten a month (if you use that many) and with that twenty dollar reward certificate that you get the following month, you can get copy paper!!! Or in my case, since I saved up certificates, I was able to get a $40.00 rebate for a new office chair and bulletin board for the sewing room!!!

Pat your self on the back for out thinking that printer thing.
|
Love it when Plan gone sour turns out to be sweet...

You out smarted the fox...brilliant thinking

I like your creativity!

If you connect to a phone line for the fax, make SURE the phone line is run through a serge protector. Ask me how I know! Yes, lightning took the fax part out of my new 4 in 1 printer.
|
Where there is a will there is a way, as they say. Good for you.
|
I recently bough a printer - KODAK esp5210 (wireless)at Walmart. It has the cheapest ink available, and they are making all their printers with this ink too. This printer scans copies and of course prints. You can get 1 with the fax machine option also if that is something that you need. Just hook up to your phone line. Don't need an additional line either.

Necessity is the mother of invention or way to think outside the box!!! I'll have to remember that the next time one of our printers has a temper tantrum! I have a printer/scanner/fax/copier that used to work fine and all of a sudden it stopped "talking" to anyone or anything. KWYM about fixing costing more than new. I killed a printer by putting freezer paper in the wrong way. Well, in case you didn't know it - freezer paper will glue onto a drum and will not come off for love nor money. Yep, it was cheaper by about $60 to buy the same model printer new than fix the old one. Yep, got a new one (had to cause the one I killed was our HP laser jet 1012 - a real workhorse for a small printer.

Clever girl!!! I just may have to copy your idea.
