I had promised a quilter to try out her new paper-pieced pattern. Pattern arrived a-okay, via email. Went to change out the printer ink, and I heard a ruckus under the hood of the printer. It sounded like someone threw in a handful of b-b's. Isn't that just perfect timing?

The printer isn't worth fixing. I'm going to buy a new one after the first of the month, but, I still have a job to do. Hmmm. I brought the pattern up onto the screen; measured to see that the 1" on the screen was 1" that I measured. Yes, it is.

I taped up a piece of tracing paper over the monitor and used a fine tipped marker to register the points. After I took it off the monitor, I connected the dots, and wrote in the piecing order.

Needed 4 copies of this and 4 copies mirror imaged. Stapled around the edges of 8 pieces of tracing paper and sewed on top of the fine lines with an old dull needle, unthreaded. I also lengthened the stitch to a baste. Voila! Flip over 4 of them and marked them correspondingly.

You can't outsmart me, you, you printer thing you! R.I.P.

Better yet, rest in pieces. I have an aggravation called a printer that someday I'll be able to replace. But I have ways around it's conniptions too. LOL

I've dealt with it's quirks for years. This time one of the pulleys that brings the ink back into the starting position snapped. I did call a repair shop and he quoted me more money to repair it than I spent on it in the first place.

I did the same thing before I had a printer. I was then convinced that I actually needed a printer.

LOL This is what I do late of a night. My printer is in the bedroom, well my husband would wake up if I went back there got in the file cabinet got paper out put it in the printer (can't keep paper in the printer the kids thinks its drawing paper) started printing....It wouldn't be good. So I just trace the screen. Makes a great light box doesn't it?

Good luck with the pattern.

My printer is needing new ink and it runs about $60 at Walmart for the 2. I'm getting the Kodak 301 printer, the black ink for it is $9. and the color is $19, tired of paying out the yazoo for ink. They have the printer on line for $79. So I'm going for it....anyone else have this printer??

I could have finished printing with the color ink, but decided to change out the B/W first. ;)

This is the one that I am going to get on the 1st. Do you love it? I also checked on the ink prices and found they were $9.00 here too. Wish now I would have bought it at Christmas when they were on sale for $65.00. Win some, lose some. Oh well. Did you mean the 3-in-one? or is that how they show it as?

I buy my ink from 4inkjets.com. I have a hp photosmart and they sell the the extra large capacity size. I do a lot of printing and the cartridiges lasted just over 2 years! I bought reconditioned and they work great..the bill for 2 black XL and 1 color XL was $38.00. They have a 10% off coupon and free shipping. They had an ad on quiltboard yesterday.
They sell all brands new and reconditioned.
Hope this helps

I see the ad below..

Loved reading your story :-P

Excellent! I hate printers....cost too much and a pain in the butt to get hooked up. We had one for our tower computer, but when we got a laptop, we needed an adapter to be able to use. So sent DH to store to buy adapter. He comes home with new printer instead! One of those multi-functional ones - printer, scanner, copier, fax. And then tells me to hook it up. Several hours later it was up and able to print....several days later I got the nerve to hook up to phone line for fax. I never send him to the store for anything!

a1crafter 05-27-2011 03:06 AM

I suggest you get a demo of the printer before purchase. We have one of those printers at work and the color copies are awful. We do not use it, Ye,s the ink is cheap but it doesn't matter if the quality is not there.

That's what I love to hear...ingenuity, an I WILL attitude.
