Practice, practice, practice. The more you do the better you'll get. Once you get past the fear and just do it, the easier it'll be next time.

I also am trying to learning FMQ. I try to follow a stippling pattern - just looking at it while I am quilting. Mine does not exactly look like stippling, but I think it looks more like meandering which I do not really know the difference between stippling and meandering. It looks OK for me. I would like to do better and hope to improve with time. - Cynthia

I finally did one and had to rip it out twice but in the end it turned out okay.
