barnbum 12-14-2009 03:59 AM

Merry Christmas, barnbum! :D Hubby has been encouraging me to get it, but I kept thinking I'd not want to spend the time learning the program and I'd rather quilt! But, I have some fabric I need to create a design for and I know the graph paper isn't going to work. Plus I want to play with that new log cabin idea more before I try it. So... I searched here and ordered it for $129 and no shipping! WooHoo!

I emailed the EQ6 link to my college daughter so she can see what she has to play with over Christmas break. :-D

JJs 12-14-2009 04:16 AM

you're gonna love it...
and don't forget to go to the eq site and download the 'monthly libraries' (old and new) to keep your fabric library up to date...

Crafty1 12-14-2009 04:54 AM

A great purchase! You're going to be amazed with all the features and designs you can do and you'll have lots of fun too. I have it also and love it! It's my "go to" before I start cutting, especially since I keep changing my mind on fabric choices. Enjoy!

Bevanger 12-14-2009 05:01 AM

congrats. i can't wait to see what all you create with it

SuzyM 12-14-2009 05:17 AM

Congrats you will love it. It is very easy to learn and if you forget something there is a video tutorial built right in.

Shadow Dancer 12-14-2009 05:17 AM

I am getting it for christmas from hubby...he just doesn't know that yet! lol

Might as well play and design quilts until I can actually do some sewing right? :)

gaigai 12-14-2009 05:21 AM

Merry Christmas!!!! I can't wait to see what you do with it. Whatever you design, I know it will be stunning!

Mousie 12-14-2009 06:00 AM

oh, I want this...I pm'd you. Hubby asked me last night what I wanted :-D

cabbagepatchkid 12-14-2009 07:18 AM

Congratulations on your Christmas present  I look forward to see how easy/hard it is to use. Keep everyone posted on your progress.

Marcia 12-14-2009 08:27 AM

I asked for EQ6 too---where did you find it at that great price? My LQS sells it for $175!!

BellaBoo 12-14-2009 08:32 AM

Congratulations for buying it for yourself! The learning curve is very easy. The books will start you out from start to finish and go as detailed as you like or as simple as you like. Connecting Threads have all their fabric lines in EQ6 format you can download into the fabric library and EQ website has all the latest fabric lines you can download every month. I seldom have to scan my fabrics, I can find the fabric in the EQ library. I rarely have to buy a quilt pattern, I can draft any pattern by picture but EQ does not tell you how to construct the pattern or the short cuts to making the blocks.

Harmony 12-14-2009 08:35 AM

You will love it! It's great for trying out different ideas, but the best part is you get design quilts that you don't actually have to make! This program will keep you entertained for years!

Jim's Gem 12-14-2009 09:30 AM

I'm getting it for Christmas too!!! My LQS has it for $149 but they also offer classes. You get a $15 discount on the class if you buy from them so I figured I might as well support one of my local shops!! I'm so excited!! I called them on Saturday and they are ordering one for me!

NorBanaquilts 12-14-2009 09:37 AM

You'll love it, have fun!

amma 12-14-2009 11:00 AM

How exciting :D:D:D
You will enjoy all that you can do with this program!!!
I bet DD will have a lot of fun designing a quilt for you to make for HER :D:D:D
I can't wait to see the new log cabin you have in mind!!!

Mousie 12-14-2009 02:20 PM

Hubby,...um, I ordered it FOR hubby, lol...told him while ago. I said we would wrap it as soon as it comes!
That is the best price I have seen! woo hoo! :-D

Boston1954 12-14-2009 02:35 PM

Congrats on your present. If it gets there before the 25th, are you going to play with it early???

barnbum 12-14-2009 03:37 PM

Nope! I'll have it put under the tree. Plus, I work right up to the 24th and have the week after Christmas off.

I bought 100 spools of Gutermann thread in a case a few weeks ago--that that's going under the tree too. I needed green thread to finish the raggeds and I went back and bought some so as not to start the gift. I think hubby is pleased I'm choosing gifts for other than the barn. Usually all I want are more shavings, horse feed, and horse treats for my birthday, Mother's Day and Christmas. A heated bucket was the last thing I just bought. I love it!! I tell him I'm so spoiled it feels like Christmas every day here. :-D

Gigip 12-15-2009 08:30 PM

I love EQ6. It is user friendly and they have great support, they even help solve computer problems that are not EQ problems. I use it for everything I make, even simple things. It has helped me to learn the program and I play with layouts and color choices. Be sure to sign up for the EQ Forum, you can do that now, even before you get your present.
BTW you can purchase the program directly from the company for $150 with free shipping.

Margie 12-15-2009 08:37 PM

I just bought it last week, but I havent had time yet to install or play with it. I am sooo behind for Christmas. I got the idea when looking through a pattern book at 99 cents sale to make an Indian Teepee, sleeping mats and fleece Indian print blankets for my two youngest grandsons. Then I decided it would be nice to embroider designs to decorate the teepee lol. I am still embroidering, everything is cut and ready to sew when I get done.

Gigip--I love the piece in your avatar!! Was that an EQ creation?

So...after you design your pattern you have to figure out how much fabric each shape requires, how much yardage you need and how it goes together? :-(

barnbum 12-16-2009 03:49 AM

Nancy--I read that too..and wondered (so I hope someone answers) but I figured I've been making enough quilts now that I know the shorts cuts. Fabric requirements would be good though.

From the EQ site, I think it does give that info???

Anyone? :?:

tlrnhi 12-16-2009 04:50 AM

What a great gift!
I'm toying with the idea of getting it, just not sure.

BellaBoo 12-16-2009 05:40 AM

EQ will tell you the yardage needed and it's very generous. It will convert all straight line blocks to paper piecing and number the order of the piecing for that. It will give you rotary cutting sizes, appliqué,and template sizes. It has quiting designs and pieced borders. There are no instructions how to sew the block together. There may be that in the built in videos, I haven't gotten that far into it. There is so much in the program!

barnbum 12-16-2009 06:48 AM

Okay! I thought that was how it was! Thanks BellaBoo!

Piedmont Quilter 12-16-2009 06:51 AM

Merry Christmas, Karla. I know you are going to enjoy your present! Can't wait to see all the new designs you come up with!!

sandpat 12-16-2009 06:56 AM

Yippee Karla!! Warning...you will be spending some of your sewing time on the computer though. I have EQ5 and love it! I always use it to play with the layout and colors. It is really really fun....there is so much in the program that I guess the next thing they will add will be that it will sew it together for you!  Merry Christmas!!!

Pam Pollock 12-16-2009 11:40 AM

That is so great!!! I've been thinking about getting it for awhile. The only reason I haven't is because I haven't had much time for the computer lately. My sewing room is filled with furniture from other rooms as we are remodeling & installing new carpet & flooring. We have my Mom & Dad moving in with us in January so that I can help take care of mom. They just sold their house that they lived in since 1960. I miss my quilting time but I want the house to be nice for them when they move in & right now that's keeping me very busy. Hope you enjoy your new EQ6. I can't wait to see the neat quilts you will be making!!

shaverg 12-16-2009 02:56 PM

Have fun.

janRN 12-16-2009 03:41 PM

I found two sites with good prices when I ordered mine about a month ago: anthegran.com and softexpressions.com. It was on sale for $129.95 with free shipping. I don't know if it's still on sale or not, but worth a try for anyone who's interested.(I don't know how to post those a link-sorry)

Janstar 12-16-2009 04:13 PM

Congrats Karla! We'll really see some creations when you get going!!

Butterfli19 12-16-2009 04:35 PM

well that's good to know! Be sure to post and tell us how you love it!

mrsmail 02-07-2010 06:03 PM

I must be the only dumb one out here. I positively cannot get the hang of using EQ6. Our fabric store had a class and I even took that. They were not completely sure how it worked, so they mixed me up even more. I admit, I have not had the time to really play with it, but thus far, I have been terribly disappointed.

Margie 02-07-2010 06:58 PM

I bought in over Christmas holidays....I havent used it yet. Sooo busy ....hope I can use it.

barnbum 02-07-2010 07:00 PM

Butterfli--I love love love it. I've made some designs--but mostly copying patterns I see somewhere else. I've read and worked through many lessons and skip around when I need to do something I haven't learned. I like to put up something and play with colors.

Pam Pollock 02-08-2010 05:47 PM

I just bought EQ6 recently & have only had time to do lesson one so far but I didn't find it difficult & they have great step by step instructions. I'm amazed by what I can already do after just finishing lesson #1. I'm looking forward to the time when I can play with it.

Congrats to anyone who gets EQ6 and understands it.
No your not the only dumb dumb out there. It seems like I have to repeat each lesson at least 2-3 times before I get it and I'm only working on lesson 3 at the end of it the first time, that was before my computer died and I had to Install the program in the new computer again, now I forgot what I did in the first two lessons? :-(

Pam Pollock 02-08-2010 07:43 PM

My daughter tells me that it takes 3 times doing something for the normal person to remember it. I would say that I'm normal as it did take me 2-3 times to just remember the icons & procedures. I think that they even say that in the instructions & they don't want you to get frustrated because they know it takes practice. It takes time for the normal person to remember things. It takes repetition. I think it will be worth it once I put in the practice time it takes to remember how the tools work & which ones are which. I think that will be half of the battle. Don't give up!!! I bet you can do it if you put in the practice time.

amma 02-09-2010 10:41 PM

With some of these programs, if you are struggling, try doing the first lesson a couple of times a day until it makes sense and you remember what the lesson is teaching. Then move on to the next lesson...
If you still run into a problem, post a question in Main, and we can help you!!!
It is a great program, once you catch on :D:D:D
