Esqmommy 07-23-2009 06:46 PM

Guess what folks...I was out today picking up my daughter's hand-me-down Singer so she can take her first quilting class/camp next week. I pulled out my old machine and got it refurbished for her. While I was there, I sat down in front of a Bernina QEE440...and to make a long story short, it's coming home with me tomorrow or Saturday. It's "used" but comes with the store warranty, and I believe it only has about 40 hours on it.

I have no idea how to embroider...I'm sure I'll get a tip here or there, right??

I'm so excited...now, any ideas how to tell hubby what I did??

kluedesigns 07-23-2009 06:48 PM

congrats!!!! what a wonderful new baby.

you can learn to embroider in no time. you can start with the justice scales and use it in your RRII center.

Esqmommy 07-23-2009 06:49 PM

Oh my, you're right!!!! Wow, this is gonna be fuuuuuuuuuuuuuun!! Woooohooo

CajunQuilter2 07-23-2009 06:53 PM

just keep it in the trunk of your car for awhile, then take it out, when he says when did you get that just say "Oh that, I have had that awhile"

First...congrats!! How fun for you!!

Second...may I suggest candle light, soft music, favorite dinner, followed by a nice relaxing massage. He won't really hear you when you tell him...but he'll say mmmhhhhm ok honey. Then my dear, you're in the clear!!

Debra Mc 07-23-2009 08:06 PM

I have had so much fun with mine. Machine embroidery is wonderful. Can't wait to start a new project. Be sure to get some lessons cause it is not that easy if you don't know what your doing. Didn't know stablization was so important but it will make or break a design. Have fun because I sure do.

Jim's Gem 07-23-2009 09:02 PM

How fun!!! I have the 630E but havn't figured out all the embroidery stuff yet. I know how to use it enough to make labels for my quilts though!
Hope it goes well telling DH!!!

cutebuns 07-23-2009 11:33 PM

congrats on the new machine, ask away on any ME questions that you have, I don't have that machine but I have been doing ME for over 15 years. I am in the proccess of talking someone else though some of the basics that she missed while at the store. There is a bit to learn and sometimes it is hard to remember even after a class or two what to do and sometimes reading the manual is easier said than done. A lot of it is, (yes just like quilting), practice practice practice and find out what works for you the best.

There are a lot of others that do EM on the board as well so someone should have the answer that you are looking for no matter what you ask.

amma 07-23-2009 11:51 PM

How exciting for you!!! Woo Hoo :D :D :D

As for telling the hubby....wait until he is watching a game, favorite tv show or movie....tell him during a "good" part and if he pretends to hear you or ignores what you are saying......................you are still in the clear

k3n 07-24-2009 02:24 AM

Woohoo! Congrats esq! Hope you have lots of fun with your new toy. I like the suggestions to get it past hubby 'what honey, this ol' thing?'

patricej 07-24-2009 02:29 AM

message for hubby: i saw it. i wanted it. we can afford it. i'm grown. i make an equal contribution to the success of this here household, buddy, so if you don't like it don't look at it and don't ask me to embroider a hat for you.

then give him a big ol' kiss on the lips and offer to cook his favorite dinner. ;-)

quiltwoman 07-24-2009 02:36 AM

I hope you love it! CONGRATS!

Up North 07-24-2009 02:49 AM

I bought myself an embroidery machine in April and Love Love Love it! I was embroidering withing half an hour of setting it up and haven't stopped since! Nothing in my house was safe from having something added to it in the beginning. I am surprised I didn't sew things on my husbands underware! LOL (I was tempted)

reneebobby 07-24-2009 02:56 AM

Congrates, and if he says anything remind him (if he golfs) about how he spends on that. 8)

tlrnhi 07-24-2009 03:13 AM

WOOHOO!!!
I say just bring it in the house and put it where your machine normally is. Take the one you use now and just put somewhere else for a bit. He'll NEVER notice the difference and if he does, just tell him....no, I've ALWAYS had this one. :)

Darlene 07-24-2009 03:17 AM

This reminds me of when I bought my new Brother. He was already in the car when I came out of Walmart with my cart and the look on his face when he saw the box was priceless. When I explained I was keeping my old machine too for quilting he said "Oh".

Bevanger 07-24-2009 04:41 AM

way cool. tell hubby it just followed you home. :D

Up North 07-24-2009 04:45 AM

When I bought mine I just told hubby it was time I bought something for ME!

Ninnie 07-24-2009 04:48 AM

congratulations!!

bearpaw 07-24-2009 04:52 AM

WooHoo!! Congrats! Totally exciting, enjoy it!

AtHomeSewing 07-24-2009 05:38 AM

Im pretty sure that's my plan...

Ducky 07-24-2009 05:56 AM

Congratulations on the new machine! It IS exciting! When I unexpectedly bought my Pfaff a few years ago I just told my husband that with as much sewing as I'm going to be doing, I considered this a great investment. He pondered it for a moment and then agreed with me. And it really has been a wonderful investment.

Barbm 07-24-2009 06:00 AM

I told hubby the Juki was an investment after 20 years of sewing on a used hand me down Singer I got for $35.

sewmuch 07-24-2009 06:01 AM

Oh, how exciting for you. Since we are so close, I may pop in and play!!
I don't have an embroidery machine, may have to get one!!

sewjoyce 07-24-2009 06:07 AM

Congrats on your new machine -- you're gonna love it!!!!!

Yeah, I like the idea of just putting the new one where the old one is and he won't notice for a while -- until you embroidery his underwear

I was just about to say the same thing... I'm not 15 minutes away! :D

Esqmommy 07-24-2009 06:31 AM

You're welcome anytime!

pittsburgpam 07-24-2009 06:41 AM

I will say the same when my daughter and grandkids move out! My house is a disaster, and I mean that literally.

How about AFTER you make his favorite dinner???

Debra Mc 07-24-2009 09:27 AM

We sell ourselves short sometimes. I rarely buy clothes & I'm not really in to jewelry so we dh bought me the quilting machine I nearly passed out. It was $999.00 on sale. He said I deserved it. My embroidery machine I bought myself. It was even more money but I saved & saved. Just remind him what a fishing trip cost or how much it cost to go deer hunting. During hunting season these guys flock Walmart & buy all those camo clothes, deer corn & feeders, beer & anything else they can find. Spend a fortune on junk & expect us to deal with it. We are worth it, just remind him also what a live in cook, housekeeper, chauffeur & gardener cost.

Woohoo! Christmas in July? I bet that will be tons of fun.

Where are you???

cutebuns 07-24-2009 10:59 AM

I hope that you saved some pennies for extra thread and stabilizer. more stuff to leave in your trunk

Lacelady 07-24-2009 01:35 PM

Congratulations Esqmommy, I am so pleased for you. Will you get a free lesson with your new Bernina baby? Just take it gently, and you will soon get the hang of it, they are great machines.

Esqmommy 07-24-2009 05:55 PM

Yes, I get lessons. I've also signed up for a Bernina embroidery class at my LQS. They sell Berninas, but I actually purchased this from a local sewing machine dealer.
