I made these 9 1/2 in blocks for another project, intending to put a hand embroidered block in the middle...but I HATE the way that block turned out and I scrapped it...so now I'm left with these blocks...I'd like to use them, but not sure for what...any suggestions?

cjomomma 01-18-2011 01:20 PM

Do you have more? If so then sew them together. Looks like they will make a neat design on their own.

Nope, all I have is these, and I do not have any more of those fabrics...If I did I would just make more blocks to make it bigger and make it into a quilt.....

blzzrdqueen 01-18-2011 01:22 PM

I don't even remember what block they are....because I do like how they came out and would like to make a quilt from that pattern!! So if you know the block, please let me know :)

carolaug 01-18-2011 01:24 PM

I love those blocks...would make a nice table top runner

carolaug 01-18-2011 01:25 PM

You could even put a border around each...then several larger ones around all of them and make a nice Lap quilt.

cjomomma 01-18-2011 01:29 PM

I don't know what block it is but it looks fairly simple to make. Maybe make some in other colors to use with these to make an organized scrappy.

my thinking also -

blzzrdqueen 01-18-2011 01:36 PM

I know I got the block from quilterscache, I WISH i could remember the name so I could get the cutting instructions for it!

Find something else that goes with them, set them on point and make table runners. You have enough for 4 two block table runners or 2 three block and 1 two block table runners. Or you could do one table runner and matching place mats.

dellareya 01-18-2011 01:40 PM

I'd just add some side borders and presto you have place mates.

cjomomma 01-18-2011 01:41 PM

Turn one block over and measure the sizes of the squares. You will need 5 sq's and 4 hst's In 5 different colors. Sew them together using the blocks as a guide. Am I right in thinking the each sq is 3 1/2in.?

Kooklabell 01-18-2011 01:47 PM

I would take four blocks and make a new center using them. An X appears. Then I would look for a coordinating fabric and make a boarder around it using the 4 remaining squares - one in each corner.

linhawk 01-18-2011 01:47 PM

Put a fussy cut in the middle add some borders and donate it if you still don't like it.

Kooklabell 01-18-2011 01:52 PM

just out of curiousity, what was the embroidered center that didn't turn out well?

Looks like 2 long and one short table runners to me!

A hummingbird and some morning glory flowers....I stitched it way too loose and was just not at all happy with how it turned out....it was first time I did anything hand wise...next time I'll use tear away stuff in a 14count and cross stitch it....

CarrieAnne 01-18-2011 02:24 PM

Maybe some potholders?

It's a 9 patch variation One of my books call it Simplex Star

quiltsRfun 01-18-2011 02:38 PM

I like the idea of doing another center block and adding sashing. Or you could alternate with plain or complementary blocks. Add borders and you've got a quilt. Another option is to put them away for a while and maybe next time you see them the answer will come to you. That's what happened with some leftover rail fence blocks I have. Came across them a while back and immediately knew exactly what to do with them. Presto! A quickly finished project.

BTW, nice job on the piecing. I really like the block design and the colors you've used. It would be a shame not to put them to good use.

cjr 01-18-2011 02:38 PM

A pretty print with lots of pinks, a pink flower maybe, then do the border of same fabric. would make a nice wall hanging or table topper

blzzrdqueen 01-18-2011 02:40 PM

I found it on Block Base, it's a Double Hour Glass :) :) :)

They've been put away for over a year and I just came across them today while going through one of my many bins....

Lindsey 01-18-2011 02:48 PM

u have enough for a baby quilt if you alternate with a plain block. or even a snowball block as alternate. would make a really nice baby quilt.

nativetexan 01-18-2011 02:54 PM

you could make them into two placemats.

sueisallaboutquilts 01-18-2011 04:02 PM

They are such pretty blocks. Hope you find some way to use them!

CoriAmD 01-18-2011 04:04 PM

looks like a nice table topper to me - 2 rows by 4 rows should make a nice size. You could even put sashing and a border if you like. Very pretty, by the way :)

pab58 01-18-2011 07:09 PM

Table runner/topper perhaps? 8-)

amazon 01-18-2011 07:23 PM

Do you have anyone ,family, friend expecting a baby. With 2 inch sashing and maybe a solid center block with applique or embroidery, it will make a darling baby quilt.

sewbeit58 01-19-2011 03:53 AM

You could also make pillows out of them.

TN Donna 01-19-2011 04:22 AM

Make another center block or just a block of one of the colors in the center. The blocks are beautiful.

OmaForFour 01-19-2011 04:33 AM

I agree on the table runner. I would turn the blocks so that they all look like a Chevron like the bottom two in the pic.

knlsmith 01-19-2011 04:39 AM

Potholders. They aren't so bad.I like them. Or charity quilt.

mountain deb 01-19-2011 05:27 AM

Take the block out of the middle and put it down in the empty corner. Find some coordinating fabric for a block in the center. Now you have a lap quilt.

117becca 01-19-2011 05:51 AM

i'd make them into 2 pillows. If you used the 4 blocks, you could put the same pattern on both sides and have one pillow.

mimee4 01-19-2011 06:39 AM

Space them out and use them on the back of another quilt.

lynmh 01-19-2011 06:44 AM

Sew the blocks together in a way that pleases you and then do an applique on top. Use as a runner or wall hanging.
The blocks are great.

letsquilt 01-19-2011 06:54 AM

My sugestion is use them for doll quilt swaps, they are beautiful.

JenniePenny 01-19-2011 06:59 AM

Set all eight blocks on point.
Row 1 and 4 to have one block each
Rowes 2 and 3 to have 3 blocks each. Make setting triangles in anything from your stash in blue, off white, green or pink.
