I would like to have a Chart! Is there any place to get or buy one?

I've only been sewing for 50+ years and I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing.

Glad you found a solution...it must have been so frustrating!

40 weight thread may have a smaller number, but the thread is heavier.

The smaller the thread number...the thicker the thread......thus the BIGGER needle (higher number) you need in your machine.

It took me years to learn that also. I just learned that most 50wt threads have three strands of thread, but some of the newer 50 wt have two strands of thread.

I took a class at the Manchester, NH quilt show and learned SO MUCH I never knew about threads....and needles. It has made my sewing life so much easier.

However, 40 wt works just fine for piecing if that's what you have or what you choose to use. Let's not make personal choice rules for others, shall we?

I don't believe she was doing that, so let's not start trouble, ok?

Try at your LQS. I took a class at one near me for beginners when I started quilting and she gave us all kinds of information like this on needles, thread, etc. She gave us booklets and charts on a lot of it and others she printed up the info herself and gave it to us. Very useful info, especially when starting and so hard to keep it all straight.
