I do the same thing, but finally broke down and bought new blades this weekend.

I do that too and I also invested in a sharpener. I think it was $30, but I figue it has already paid for itself.

I was lucky did't get cut ....lesson learned ...don't wait so long next time....

I really wasn't pressing that hard ...i was shocked .....will be more cautious...
I can't imagine how you could break a blade. It must have been really scary to have that happen.

Please remember the old Chef's rule: The duller the knife, the bigger the chance of cutting yourself. The same works with rotary cutters. I always advocate safety first. I've seen and heard of too many accidents with rotary cutters.

One case in point was my friend cut the edge of her thumb and nail off because she was not only pressing too hard, but she got distracted at the same time. Fortunately, although she got a very strange manicure on her thumb nail, she only grazed the thick skin you have on the edge of your thumb and there was very little bleeding. But, I have heard worse stories...

I've nicked my finger a few times, but nothig serious. One time, I was cutting fleece, a long piece and ran off the mat. I cut clear through the table cloth, and even left a deep gouge on the wood table as well. I did have a nice clean cut on the fleece, though.

i do the same thing with my cutter and needles i push them to the limit

I sometimes work with a nicked blade for a while, and when I finally change it, I wonder, why didn't I change it sooner.

Before you really need a new blade, a drop of oil rubbed on the blade will make it cut better. (Of course, be sure to wipe off all oil before you cut again!!)

I also have been doing the same thing for the past several projects. You just reminded me to change that darn blade. Thanks

I have a sharpener, it does extend the life a little.

Just a thought, but I discovered that my cutting mat was partially to blame for the "skips" in my rotary cutting. Upon (much) closer study, there were many slices on the surface
