sahm4605 05-12-2010 12:18 PM

well I feel stupid. I have had this 6 1/2 square ruler for about 6 years now and always have had the darnedest time using it because it had this backing on it that was paper. Always thought about buying a new one but just never have. Well today was working on cutting some fabric and just happened to turn it over. there was a portion missing from one corner so I took a closer look. Well low and behold, the paper backing was peeling off. So I just peeled it the rest of the way. Which is what you were supposed to do after you bought the stupid thing. So lets just say that I am now feeling really foolish all these years. Good thing I have never purchased another square ruler that size. Anyone else do this too?   :XD:

raptureready 05-12-2010 12:20 PM

That's funny! I'm not sure I'd have told that on myself. LOL

amma 05-12-2010 12:21 PM

Yes  it wasn't paper, but it was a slick plastic

granniebj 05-12-2010 12:23 PM

Well I knew mine was suppose to come off but I had a devil of a time getting it off! Mine just didn't peel off!

Rebecca VLQ 05-12-2010 12:24 PM

Tee hee hee...I bet it looks nice and shiny now! :D

eparys 05-12-2010 12:27 PM

I think that is a hoot - I have done many things equally as "dumb" - Look at it this way - now you do not have to go out and get a new one!!

patricej 05-12-2010 01:40 PM

you aren't the stupid one.

whoever thought it was necessary to glue paper backs to rulers, knowing they had to be peeled off to use them, is the idiot. :hunf:

Holice 05-12-2010 01:42 PM

i thought the paper is on the back to aid in the original manufacturing/cutting process.

littlehud 05-12-2010 02:02 PM

That is so funny. I can see myself doing the same thing.

trupeach1 05-12-2010 02:04 PM

TOOOOOOOOOOOO funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BellaBoo 05-12-2010 02:04 PM

Wow! 6 years? At least you got a new ruler to use from all that waiting! LOL

Barbm 05-12-2010 02:06 PM

rates right up there with DD baking a ham with the plastic thing on the side. Luckily I came home and asked about it. We still laugh about 7 years later.

you now have a fresh new ruler! bet you see better to cut.

BKinCO 05-12-2010 02:12 PM

That's funny. But to tell the truth, I was pretty panicky peeling my paper off mine, I was afraid I was ruining it.....obviously (to everyone but ME! and you...) you're SUPPOSED to peel it off!

jljack 05-12-2010 02:30 PM

Ha-HA!!! Yes, I did exactly the same thing when I bought my 6x24 ruler. I kept thinking, why did they put this stupid paper on? How am I supposed to see the numbers? When I finally figured out I had to peel the paper off, I felt dumber than dumb!!!

thismomquilts 05-12-2010 02:30 PM

this is funny!! I was nervous to take the paper off one of mine - was afraid the printing was on teh paper and I wouldn't have th measurements!! Thanks for sharing!

Ninnie 05-12-2010 02:31 PM

now that is funny , and something I can see myself doing LOL

katei 05-12-2010 02:31 PM

I think you're real smart - haven't you got a brand new ruler now! :-P

dkabasketlady 05-12-2010 02:33 PM

I think you win the prize on "dumb" things, lol!!! I guess it's not any dumber than my DS & DM trying to figure out how to oil the sewing machine with one of those small kits from JoAnn's. The sm. bottle had a stopper in the top you had to take out before putting on the nozzle. You have to know my DS, she's a college graduate with a degree in engineering. We still laugh over it that she couldn't figure it out and had to ask my DF.

dotcomdtcm 05-12-2010 02:35 PM

You mean like leave the sticky stuff on the new microwave!

katei 05-12-2010 02:42 PM

Or trying to pour the wine with the cork still in? ;-)

clem55 05-12-2010 02:51 PM

Been there done that!! Micowave and the new stove!

dotcomdtcm 05-12-2010 02:53 PM

Isn't it nice to have a good laugh?!Even at yourself!

Right on Patrice!!!!!

MadQuilter 05-12-2010 03:04 PM

An acquaintance of mine was taking a pregnancy test. When her husband asked what the result was, she told him there wasn't any. She didn't realize that she needed to peel the celophane from the stick.

Aren't you glad you didn't spend money on a new ruler?!

Janetlmt 05-12-2010 03:10 PM

that is so funny ! ! ! I have this thing that I just can't bring myself to pull off the clear plastic protection that they put on ipods, dvd players, and other little gadgets...My son in law is trying to come up with a phobia to call it. glad you took the paper off..thank you for sharing..
Blessings

amandasgramma 05-12-2010 03:12 PM

Not with a ruler but I DID use my rotary cutter for a year before I realized it was set up for a lefty......when replacing the blade (about the 6th one!!!) i discovered I could "change" it over for a righty!!!!!! Wondered why it didn't cut very well at times!!!!!! I thought it was cuz some rulers were thicker!!!

OH - one time I couldn't get my new printer to work!!!! Wouldn't print ANYTHING -- ACTED like it wanted to print, actually ran the paper thru. I finally, after phone calls, etc, had a guy I work with come over to help. Turns out there's a little tape thingy over the hole where the ink is supposed to come out!!! LOL

dsb38327 05-12-2010 03:20 PM

Too cute. When we do stuff it makes us want to cut others some slack when they have an !Oh My! moment. When I got my June Taylor Shape-cut I must have thrown the wrapper and directions away. I had it forever and didn't know what to do with it. I went back to the store and read the directions on a new one. Ummmmm. Well, enjoy your brand new, newly unwrapped ruler.

JanieW 05-12-2010 03:21 PM

I can identify. I was upset because I thought I had ruined the touch pad on the microwave with my fingernails. Turns out I had been using it for two years without peeling off the protective plastic. It was the protective plastic that I had perforated with my nails. Doh! This is the first time I have ratted myself out.

craftiladi 05-12-2010 03:28 PM

It takes a brave woman to admit that one...lol...we are laughing w/ u....he he

ncsewer 05-12-2010 03:38 PM

My husband does the same thing. Leaves the plastic it on to protect it he says. Everything looks great years later when it dies and we throw it out!

Well, since we are telling stories on ourselves, anybody ever lost groceries on the way home from the store? I lost a bunch of broccoli one time, I paid for it but when I got home, it was not in the bag. How about ribs? I stopped at the store on my way home from work and bought some of the "already cooked" ribs for supper. When I got home Hubby asked what was for supper, Ribs! What ribs? I had left them in the cart when I loaded the groceries in my truck. We still laugh about that one. I must have been dreaming about a new quilt pattern.

nativetexan 05-12-2010 03:44 PM

My neighbor left her son in the grocery cart after unloading all the groceries into the car. Got all the way home when it dawned on her what she'd done. Raced back to the store to see her little boy calmly sitting in the cart in the middle of the parking lot just waiting. Thankfully, he did manage to grow up into a well-adjusted young man despite all.

OMG! Today they'd toss her in jail for that!!!! ROL!!!

mtnmama 05-12-2010 04:27 PM

OMG is right! People have to do goofy things for families to have stories to tell and laugh about. Thankfully that little boy was OK.

SandyMac 05-12-2010 04:41 PM

Oh just count me in on this one. I never would have known if my girlfriend hadn't compained that it was just to slippery and I should buy a new non slip one

JanetM 05-12-2010 04:57 PM

I haven't done that...too funny. BUT, we have lived in our home for almost 7 years and I just discovered that I have a broiler in BOTH the top oven and the BOTTOM one. How dumb is that

crkathleen 05-12-2010 05:41 PM

haha too funny! My sister has the same phobia about peeling off the plastic on her new phone. Been there done that with the microwave :)

my mom went to the store one time bought some ground beef and got home and couldn't find it. Two weeks later we found it cleaning out her van. We couldn't take the smell and thought some one had spilled something in the back. turned out to be a pack of meat that had slipped under one of the captains chairs in back. My mom was soooo red faced about that. We still tease her about it.
