I hide mine in the garage and then sneak them in when it is dark and he has gone to bed. I put them in the closet downstairs under folded quilts. I don't think he notices the black ones because to him they all look alike. Hah, if he only knew. Once in a while I will bring out one of the two tone 50's japanese clones and he will ask me when did you get that one. Answer, Oh quite awhile ago, just got her out to oil. He shrugs his shoulders and walks on. Of course, he has not gone out to my side of the garage where the cabinet machines are. They are sort of hard to hide. Guess I will have to have a moving furniture day, that really confuses him. He will not notice another cabinet, trust me on that.

Very good. The light has come on in brain. lol.

A stach is not a "nice to have" or "need to have", but a total "I would die if I did not have...." You clearly understand the importance of a stash - for every inch you use, you need to buy at least (the very least) a fat quarter replacement. While you are at it, you might as well get something in blue, or yellow, or red, or just because it is very pretty. Welcome to the sea of stash - go with the flow.

mymsmess 01-27-2012 04:55 AM

Stash, it's a BEAUTIFUL word!

cabbagepatchkid 01-27-2012 05:11 AM

I have a stash and also caught the 'vintage sewing machine bug' a couple of years ago.

This funny video shows you "100 ways to hide your stash" :D :

Yes, more fabric. Sometimes I feel like a crazy person who is adicted to having fabric. Some of mine is too pretty to cut up so I just keep it to look at. Is that a sign of adiction or not?

katesnanna 01-27-2012 05:41 AM

You're addicted. Happy quilting.

Jothesewer 01-27-2012 05:47 AM

Last summer my sisters and I went to a garage sale, the lady said she was cleaning out her mother's sewing room and would have some fabric but didn't have it together yet, she would call us when she did. She called and said we could come to look at the fabric. There was fabric everywhere, partial projects, a mix of everything. My sisters and I by the end of the summer had bought 800 yards or more of fabric plus books, patterns and trim from her. She was selling it for $3.00 a box, copy paper size. We love our fabric stash.

heh... welcome tothe group!

Snooks 01-27-2012 07:15 AM

You are in TROUBLE now. Once you get it - YOU'VE GOT IT!!!! Never to not have it again! LOL But it is soooooooo much fun. Enjoy. Finding just the right fabric for your stach is almost as much fun as quilting.

helenhiwater 01-27-2012 07:48 AM

I used to think that stashes were a little over the top, but then I had some fabric that didn't quite fit into the pattern and got way too much of something else. Now whenever I need fabric for a quick baby quilt or other small project, I look in my fabric stash first. Oh yeah. I also download favorite pictures from here and rip them out of magazines so I have a pattern stash too!

feffertim 01-27-2012 08:06 AM

When I took my first quilting class, the ladies were talking about being addicted to fabric and I thought how stupid is that. How can you be addicted to fabric. Well, didn't take long for me to understand, now have a big stash. The problem is I love all the fabric so much I hate to cut it up. LOL You are a true quilter when you buy fabric because you love it, have to have it and have no idea what you are going to use it for. You go girl.

Welcome to the stash club!!!

Sheila_H 01-27-2012 08:34 AM

It's funny DH and I will be driving down the road on a road trip and I will let a yell out of me "Quilt Store Stop The Car, turn around they are still open" DH laughs and says I react to a quilt store the same way the dog reacts to a Squirrel - gotta run! Then he figures out we've never been in or through that town before so how the heck did I spot a Quilt Store at 60 MPH - told him its a talent lol

karenpatrick 01-27-2012 08:38 AM

From one addict to another: welcome to the club. It's not a very exclusive club - there are LOTS of members.

wolph33 01-27-2012 08:40 AM

If you have an IPhone or an IPod there is a great free app that will find all the quilt shops within miles of any town you type in. Or it will use your location and tell you where all the quilt shops are. It gives you a list of names and adresses and a map to get you there, DH has threatened to remove the app from my IPod. LOL

You're in trouble now!

mouseface 01-27-2012 10:27 AM

welcome to the club

sylviak 01-27-2012 11:46 AM

There's no such thing as too much fabric...just too little room to keep it! LOL!

Deanne 01-27-2012 12:07 PM

I started out the opposite, I inherited my MIL stack, (rooms full) and was only going to use it to make quilts, that worked for ONE, front, back, batting and all, but then started to get ideas, have cleaned out much of what I didn't want, didn't like and seemed unsuitable for quilts, but now, due to my diligent shopping, I seem to be right back where I started from. I love to buy fabrics for a project! I need to use up so much stash! And now I also find myself saving scraps! Oh My!

caspharm 01-27-2012 02:48 PM

I also have my stash, but am also starting to use leaders and enders (waiting for the quilt to grow :)) so will end up with more WIPs.

patski 01-27-2012 02:52 PM

welcome now you really belong!! Enjoy the addiction and the joy of quilting

LindaM49 01-27-2012 02:55 PM

That's great pinkberry kay. Hey...did you ever decide on that Janome? I was in today for my instruction class on the Horizon and had a blast. Maybe I will get a chance to post later and tell everyone how much fun and informative the class was.

CoventryUK 01-27-2012 03:00 PM

Welcome to the club!!! And you know what......scraps breed in the night!!!!!!:D

par4theday 01-27-2012 03:13 PM

My Stash is the reason I never pay full price for any fabric. On sale, its off to shop I go, and add to the Stash. Now I think, What colors do I need in my Stash. Then when I need a project, I find what I need in my stash. I'm happy to have you on board. If we ever have a fabric shortage, we won't miss a beat. I like being prepared.

desertrose 01-27-2012 03:14 PM

See you've been bitten by the bug and now you're truly one of us...Welcome to the stash addicts of the World...We're glad to have another proud member join our ranks !

pinkberrykay 01-27-2012 03:55 PM

Thanks for asking, I decided against getting it right now. I know I was getting a great deal however I didn't have the bug that I normally get when I want something really bad and when that happens I can't get it fast enough. I just had to many doubts and wanted to wait. I am now looking at vintage sewing machine.

But wait for it...I DID, I went through my draws and found the perfect fabrics to finish the quilt.

I get it I really do, now I want to go shopping and buy more fabric.

And doesn't it feel good to find something in your stash?!?!? I love that feeling of knowing I actually have that STASH for a reason!!!!!
