Later, I wanted to respond to a question that was the last message in a couple of pages of a thread, and I simply did a "quick reply." I agree that using "quote reply" is a good idea. Some posts make no sense because we are such a prolific group that by the time you post and answer, 5 other people have posted and then, since I care what people post, I have to look back to see what they are commenting on. This thread has really given me some good comments! Love all you guys.

amandasgramma 02-16-2011 09:44 AM

I'm responding even though it's against my policy. I've come to the conclusion no one needs my answer if 2 pages of answeres have already been posted. (note - there's 3 here already!). MY irritation is when I post a picture, for example, and give all the information as to what pattern, what thread, etc. Then I get 7 pages of "oh, I like this -- where did you get the pattern"..... :( come on folks, read the first post at least!!!!

JUNEC 02-16-2011 09:44 AM

I am also guilty - sometimes there are 8 or 9 pages -I will read the 1st page or 2 - and then am shocked after I post my 2 cents, I find that the topic has changed altogether
LOL

woah. thatz fancy talk. What is it gots you uhnhappy now? it take more mussel to frown than to smile, so beem on, girlfrien

cmw0829 02-16-2011 10:16 AM

Well, my general approach is that if there are already 3 or more pages in the post, somebody has already responded - probably more than once.

I tend to avoid the posts that have lots of pages because i don't have the time to go through them all.

My suggestion:
It would be helpful if posters used more detailed topic descriptions though since it's sometimes hard to tell what a post is about for the few words included.

JMHO :)

franie 02-16-2011 10:19 AM

I should not respond because it is up to page 4 already and I just read the first page but I am gonna anyway! I am just starting my day and many of you are at the tail end. I am off to sew!

donnajean 02-16-2011 10:27 AM

I have read an entire post & by the time I write a response, someone else has contributed the same thought. This is not an issue with me & I do not have time to read posts that are many pages long.

Well I was very recently asked a question, the answer to which was in the title of the topic!
And I always include name of pattern/book/fabric range etc in initial post but it would seem some people only look at the pictures.

I read when I can and post when I want...It's a free board and country! I don't mind reading extra post...I enjoy this board very much and would hate for someone to ruin it for me...that can happen.

kwiltamomma 02-16-2011 10:45 AM

I had to look up the meaning of curmudgeon.

Try your best to be patient with people. I try and fail constantly, but patience is a good goal.

Or, I could see that there have been four pages posted here and say what I have to say without reading all of them. Human nature apparently. No one wants to read a 12 page thread just to talk to the original poster. You'll forget what they said by the time you run the gauntlet. That's why we have the habit of addressing the OP online.

So, OP, it's fine to have a pet peeve but don't actually expect human nature to bend to accommodate the weight of said peeve. I quite like pet peeves. That, and complaining about people who outrank us. National pastimes.

luvstitches 02-16-2011 12:12 PM

I don't mind reading repeat posts that come from different people. I never realized it was a problem.
Is it?

SherriB 02-16-2011 12:21 PM

I don't always have the time to read 4 or 5 pages, so I don't mind if someone posts the same answer or question. It saves me from having to read page after page. And if I do have the time to read, I enjoy the posts, even repeats ones.

linhawk 02-16-2011 01:09 PM

Guilty
sorry bout that

No Laura3 this is not the definition of me. I did read every post on this topic. I can read comments or just pass by, doesn't bother me.
carefree, happy and love to quilt.

plainpat 02-17-2011 05:31 AM

I seldom post in a thread with over 4 pages of responses & seldom ever read a whole thread unless it's of major interest...so I plead guilty :)

Tinabodina 02-17-2011 05:35 AM

I agree - I enjoy reading the first post and usually read the first line or so of the others, but I enjoy being able to respond as I wish. I can't remember a time when I was mean or hateful. People on the board only speak what the feel. It is wonderful to be able to let the first thing that comes to mind out.

cur·mudg·eon/kərˈməjən/
Noun: A bad-tempered or surly person

Herein lies one problem:

Kathidahl did not infer others were a "curmudgeon" she said she hated to be one herself and only stated her feelings. People just do not seem to read and understand what others are saying when it is there in black and white. That in itself is frustrating because a poster did not take the time to read what was truly said in the original post.

That said, everyone has a right to their own feelings but it is truly understandable that many of us do feel that if people read the original post in it's entirety that many would not ask questions that were already answered in the original post. Plus the fact that many people ask a question that has been answered numerous time in the thread. IMHO, if you are going to ask a question that is important to you then it would be beneficial to read the thread to see if an answer was already given.

Threads may become long winded but there are as many members who take the time to read an entire thread as there are those who don't want to take the time and skim over which may cause them to lose a lot of valuable information plus answers aready given. I personally feel that if a thread is something I am interested in I will read what has be said and if I have something valuable to add I will. I also don't have the time to read ones that don't interest me and respond just for the sake of responding.

To each their own.....but everyones opinion should be respected for what it is and no one needs to feel it is personalized against them which seems to be more and more common here as of late.

qwkslver 02-17-2011 05:38 AM

Isn't the thread really ABOUT the first post? Sometimes the responses meander a bit. I reply to the first poster's comments. I don't have time to read the entire threads.

Not everyone has hours to read, especially when the threads reach multiple pages. I know for myself that I will try to read the first page in a thread, if I want to reply, I do, and if someone else replies with the same or close to, it's not a big deal.
With every action in life, there is a reaction. Many times the reaction is not what some think it should be, and that is ok as everyone is an individual.
It's where flexability comes in to allow others to be who they are.

bigsister63 02-17-2011 06:20 AM

So!!!!! I like to read that other people think the same as you. Besides The board requires you to post so many time in 2 week period that you need to respond to keep reqular status!

kwiltamomma 02-17-2011 06:26 AM

There is a reply button and a quote reply button. When the quote reply button is used doesn't that mean you are commenting to the person that posted that comment? If so then it becomes a conversation and changes just like a person to person conversation.

Yes..actually part of what my original comment was about..some answers do not address the original post..they are comments about someone else's post and when "quote reply" is not used, it is hard to know what is being said.

I'm guilty as charged BUT I posted a question about hand piecing recently ... asking how people did a certain thing ... and only got a few answers. It would have been okay with me to see other chime in to say me too because I was looking for how did people do it. Just because I got a couple of answers didn't mean that I wouldn't have liked to see how the majority of people did it ... but that's just me.

You know I have enough things in my life that I have to watch for and be careful of and make sure every t is crossed and every eye is dotted, I come here to share and enjoy the many talented people on this board who just being able to show thier work and share their opinions with others who enjoy this hobby. And for some this is the only way they have to talk to other ladies and gentlemen and to
see what others are doing. So if you just have a few minutes and want to share I don't care if you just read the first line I am glad you are here.JMO

Curmudgeon....Synonyms: bear, bellyacher, complainer, crab, crank, croaker, crosspatch, grouch, fusser, griper, grouser, growler, grumbler, grump, murmurer, mutterer, sourpuss, whiner

Guess that is me...LOL..thanks for all your input...next time I will post a less controversial topic!!

maryb44662 02-17-2011 08:56 AM

Hey folks, I love this board anyway it comes to me. I enjoy many answers to one question, that way I can chose the one I like, etc. As for the many opions, I love that too. This board has really been enjoyment for me and seems to be part of my family. I check in a couple or three times a day for new ideas, etc., and at night I relax and chat on the live chat. Love it..........Be Happy!!!!!!!!!!!! Mary

indycatcarol 02-17-2011 10:03 AM

This may have already been posted but I don't have time to read the entire 6 pages (LOL!). On another group I'm in it may show that 25 people have commented on my post but 300 people have looked at it. I guess it more hurts my feelings for people to look at my post and not bother to say anything (like "I like it or Love the colors")). I'd much rather hear the same thing over and over instead of not hearing anything at all. Just my 2 cents.
