I also use Sharons 2 board method for basting. It really is quite fast and much less bulky then pinning.. My fingers really hurt by the end though. I also liked spray basting but really have a good indoor place to do it.

Now that it's getting to be pool time in my area I'm investing in a few dowls and 3 pool noodles. If you have a larger quilt, use a dowl the size of the inside opening of the noodle to hold 2 together. Make 3 the same size, role backing on one, batting on middle one and top on the last one then you just spray or whatever method you choose.

Quilting is a learned process. My first quilt I did in sections and from then on that's the way I go for larger ones. I'm investing in rulers for fmq with templates. Since I don't have a top made currently, once I do I'll take a picture of it. Make a drawing of each block and start there. There also are rulers that you can use for an all-over quilting so you don't have to do a lot of planning and thread breaks.

I have the Westalee rulers for my Juki 2010 and for my Elna which will also work on my new BLJazz2! They are so fun to do!
