These are all wonderful and brought a smile to my face.

I hate the bobbin thing and ruler moving too, those still happen to me often.

I hate when my hand quilt group has a Sunday afternoon set up and my friend gets called into work.

I made hardly any mistakes on my first quilt which of course took forever because I second-guessed EVERY BLOODY STEP. By quilt 2 I decided I was an expert.....and let the fun begin. LOL

[quote=Kara]...when I'm sewing along and realize I ran out of bobbin thread 48' ago (after I've pulled out all the pins - because you're not *supposed* to sew over pins). Sew you pull out the quilt. Repin. Wind the bobbin, and pick up where you left off.

I agree with so many of these... but This is my all time favorite I have read yet. I thought I was getting done, and had run out of bobbin so far back. And I had just patted myself on the back for getting that far with out it happening. arghhhhhhhhhhhh

I have an indicator that tells me... but if you don't pay attention... It should be a really bright neon light... :-) :-)

And I'm quilting with verigated thread, and it's impossible to make it look like a natural progression of the top thread.

Mary

A very good friend and I were having a sewing day, clothing not quilting, and she actually sewed right over her tape measure.

We used to laugh so much on our days. Now she has moved to the other side of the country and haven't seen each other for ages.

MadQuilter 03-29-2009 12:42 PM

...when I'm in hurry and I'll just finish that last cut - without realizing that I have one of the already cut pieces underneath.

I cut on my kitchen bar, move things over to the dining room table before taking into sewing room, so it is just never one area I have to neaten up!!!

How about the times you get that call from the realtor, you put your quilting away, and then there's a NO-SHOW! Grrrrrr!! :hunf:

thismomquilts 03-29-2009 01:09 PM

1. when the kids talk to me while i'm cutting fabric...
2. when i begin something only to have to leave in the middle of it.
3. ruler thing!!
4. when i failed to buy enough fabric from a store 40 miles away - and knowing there's still somet there - i just have to go get it :(
5. having to go to work instead of staying home to quilt :)

jan22 04-01-2009 05:14 AM

Mystery quilt classes. I joined my first, and did as instructed. Hated the block and design so now I have this huge box of strips cut and several squares sewed and I know I'll never finish it. Never signed up for another mystery since. I'm a 'need to know' person in that I need to know what it will look like when finished or I will never start cutting fabric. Now I make a block of a design before I cut anymore fabric for the rest of the squares. Too many other projects and ideas that I want to do.

QuiltinCuzn 04-01-2009 05:39 AM

I hate it when I'm cutting my fabric and my back starts to hurt sooo bad. I wish my dining room table was just a bit higher!! I can't cut sitting, I have to stand, and when I'm bent over, my body is at a 90 degree angle! Lol.

I found a high "bar-type" table in the clearance section of Nebraska Furniture Mart. It is the perfect height to use as a cutting table. I used to cut on the floor :)

quiltingma 04-01-2009 05:41 AM

I have my quilt all laid out and it looks right, sew it together and I have 2 blocks the same next to each other.

rocklady 04-01-2009 05:42 AM

I sew the hanging sleeve/rod pocket?? on the bottom of the wall hanging instead of the top. Just did that. GRRRR

Bettia 04-01-2009 06:39 AM

mk, Kinda sorta the same. I sewed a straight pin with a round head into my batting. It took forever to get it out.

pennyswings 04-01-2009 06:49 AM

I hate it when I think the thread tension is ok then pull the piece out of the machine and find big loops of bobbin thread under the piece. This usually happens when I switch from zig-zag to straight stitch, and is my fault for not taking that into account. I also hate it when the last time I used the machine I was doing a zig-zag machine quilting and I switch the foot I was using to my 1/4" foot only to start to sew and break the needle, because I forgot to switch the stitch type from zig-zag to straight stitch, again my fault. Can you tell I am inexperienced or what? :hunf:
I too hate when the ruler moves!

I hate it when I am quilting the quilt and the bottom of the quilt gets caught up in the back and then I have to take out the stiches.

QuiltingWithMissy 04-01-2009 06:57 AM

My quilting pet peeve is when you post a question and a lot of people say well I don't know that but I am sure some one will. I probably will be hated after this. But if you don't know the answer give the people that do a chance to say yes I do know. I have posted questions before and gotten good answers. But before I got to them I gave up reading all the I don't knows.
Now you can hate me. Juju

waquilter 04-01-2009 07:39 AM

When I'm machine quilting and the tension gets all messed up on the back side and I don't realize it for about a mile.

I'm not gonna yell, but there's one thing you didn't consider. Although yes, it's annoying at times, it can be helpful.

On forums with a lot of very active members it's easy for a post with no replies to get pushed down to the bottom of the page or even to the 2nd page really quick and it may get overlooked. So when someone posts on it (even if they don;t know the answer), it gets bumped to the top of the page where it's more easily seen. Just something to ponder. ;)

eb in calif 04-01-2009 10:11 AM

not a hate but found a solution to ruler moves
Take a no slip draw liner sheet (at $ store for $1 or lowes for $5) and either lay below the cut line then put ruler on top or spray adhesive a strip to the bottom of your ruler and kiss ruler slip good bye.

Patty44 04-01-2009 10:19 AM

I hate it when the thread breaks, you re do it and it breaks again,I don't know if it is the kind of thread or the needle or what. But I somties act like a little kid and just grit my teeths and scream..NOt real loud but kind of through my teeth..

That is why I loved my Janome 9000 it never did that and just sews so smooth and quite. I will be glad when I get it fixed. Wating for the ship to come in..

Great idea!

joann hussey 04-01-2009 11:24 AM

when I'm almost finished and run out of bobbin or cut 3 1/4 when I
should have cut 3 1/2

pennyswings 04-01-2009 11:46 AM

Just one more then I will stop, I promise.
I hate it when I am machine quilting and I take the quilt out and find out that the material on the back of the quilt edges has folded and I have sewn it to the back of the quilt. Then I have to rip it out and do it over, what a bummer. Grrrr!!!!!

ShirleyAnne 04-01-2009 11:52 AM

I hate it when I order an expensive quilt kit and then discover when it arrives that it's made up of the sleazy fabric I could have gotten at Joann's . Dang ! :(

hulahoop1 04-01-2009 12:26 PM

I hate it when the iron, with its auto-off feature, shuts off and is cold when I need to press seams. It's on my list to replace asap.

I found another solution at a local fabric store. It was a package of small adhesive dots made out of fine sandpaper made specifically to attach to the bottom side of rulers to keep them from slipping. I placed them in the corners of the rulers about 1/2 inch from the edge and one in the middle. Works beautifully.

Lucky Patsy's 04-01-2009 12:46 PM

.....I'm putting the binding on and have come all the way around to join the two tails together and either:

1) mark it, but forget to unfold it before cutting and now the two ends don't meet and I have to sew another piece on to make it reach......OR

2) mark it and cut it correctly, but sew it together with a full twist in it!

Don't even ask me how often I have done both of these! I hate it when I am such a SLOW LEARNER!

I purchased a set of bed risers to put under my dining room table to solve that very problem! What a relief!

You, too! I've even done it twice!

My other peeve is when I'm concentrating so hard that I don't hear DH coming down the hall, and I yelp when he says something.

The bobbin thing - when the light goes on I KNOW there's thread left, so I keep sewing, and I usually forget the light went on - - -

BellaBoo 04-01-2009 01:07 PM

I lay down a quilting tool and it takes me forever to find it and I just had it.

Try putting blocks under the table legs to raise it to the right height so you don't have to bend over & hurt your back. I have mine at 36", and it works for me - I'm 5'6" and I have serious vertabrae problems. My chirpractor told me this is the right height for me. His wife is a quilter, too, so he knew better than to tell me to stop sewing!

2 more ruler slip fixes: Dritz fabric grippers that you stick to the back of your rullers. Ditto the little sandpaper grippers. They really work.

Umm, I sewed through my thumb once. I hated that. I was more upset about the blood on the fabric than by how much it hurt. Sure felt stupid, especially when I had to explain to the machine repairman.

peachrose 04-01-2009 01:46 PM

I have a Brothers and it gives a warning when bobbin is low, but it is suppose to let you do like 20 more stitches ---- NOT. GRRR just when you thought you was done with that section.

There's a simple answer: put something in your original post to state that you are only interested in constructive answers. That will keep some well-meaning comments out (but you may alienate some of the sensitive members).

i almost peed reading that one. when i was a teenager, i sewed right through my right-hand pointer finger. i unscrewed the needle, got a neighbor to take me to the local emergency room and when the doctor threw the needle away, i took it back because it was my last one and i had to finish what i started. since i was in a hospital anyway, the doctor wanted to have me committed.
