:-D :-D :-D I have a great tip that I thought of a couple days ago. If you use regular printer paper for foundation piecing and find it a little harder to take it off the block when you are done. Try this.... Get a small bowl or a cup and put a little water in it. Then get a q-tip and dip it in the water and dap some water on the stitches on the paper and it will soften it so it makes it much easir to carefully take off that paper. And it doesn't pull on the threads. This is a great way to test color to see if it runs. Just sew two scraps together as if making a block a light and a dark color and then do the q-tip trick and if the color runs, you will know it right away. Then you will know not to use the running color in your quilt. This trick is great for those little tiny pieces of paper you have to take off. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

This is a great tip and one of those things that gives me that 'duh' moment - you know, why didn't I think of that?

Bobbinchick 08-20-2011 10:30 AM

I tried it because I had a dilly of a time trying to remove the paper and found the tiny pieces are hard to remove so a couple of nights ago I was thinking when I was supposed to be sleeping. I thought hey there HAS to be an easier way to get that friggin stuff off so next day I tried this trick and by golly it worked! Don't get it very wet, just enough to soften the paper. I'm working on my Glacier Star pattern by Judy Neimyer and I'm about half done with the sawtooth things and those little pieces will be easier to take off with this trick. Now going to take a break to fill out some papers and then will go do the 2nd half of the saw tooth things for the lone star part of the quilt and then I can sew the star together and start on the laast technique of the quilt. Every one have a great day, Huggies, Fay

Thank you for the tip one of my next projects is PP

Bobbinchick 08-20-2011 02:45 PM

Your all welcome. I didn't think it was fair not to share it with my fellow quilters. Have a great day, Huggies, Fay

quilter41 08-20-2011 02:50 PM

Exactly why I never PP. To much playing around when I could be more productive doing something else. Glad it helps some.

EasyPeezy 08-20-2011 02:55 PM

Great tip. Thanks for sharing.

MadQuilter 08-20-2011 02:55 PM

It also works when you spritz the paper using one of the small plant (or dog) spritz bottles. That's what I have used in the past.

oatw13 08-20-2011 05:29 PM

That's a really great tip. Thanks for sharing.

Donna H-M 08-21-2011 02:53 AM

That is a geat tip! I will def try it next time I PP. Last time is wet the whole block with a spritzer bottle. I had to iron to dry it. Thanks!!

Stitcher317 08-21-2011 03:56 AM

WOW - THANK YOU. I've been struggling with sore fingers trying to get the paper off a very large quilt I am paper piecing.

Debby54 08-21-2011 04:22 AM

Thanks for the q-tip tip.
I will try this today as I am doing some paper piecing

quiltaroni 08-21-2011 04:34 AM

quiltymom 08-21-2011 04:44 AM

Great tip thanks for sharing!!!

Grannymom 08-21-2011 04:55 AM

the next pp tip - use a small stitch length....

eparys 08-21-2011 05:00 AM

I have recommended this for years in paper piecing - it works fantastically - along with a very short stitch length.

Never thought about testing colorfastness with it however!! Great idea!

Janis 08-21-2011 05:03 AM

I just love the tips we get here on the board. This is just so simple, I wonder why we haven't thought of it before. Now I do want to PP!!! Thanks a lot!

mizsandy 08-21-2011 05:24 AM

I love PPing but getting the paper all off has been a 'sticky' problem. Thanks for the tip.

Thank you ! I will try this

Yarn or Fabric 08-21-2011 05:56 AM

Awesome! I'll give it a go... I have a few paper piecing projects on my to do list :)

babeyruth 08-21-2011 05:58 AM

Wow this is fantstic tip! I just bought some Carol Doaks foundation paper at Joann's (used coupon!) and I am surprised how hard it is to pull. I am hand piecing my pieces so I think it's even more vulnerable. This really helped!

snipforfun 08-21-2011 06:02 AM

I find it just easier to use paper piecing paper. Dont need any tricks to get the paper out. Yes it adds a little more expense to the project, but in the scheme of things, it is cheaper than frustration. I figure whats a little more when I spend so much on this crazy hobby anyway.
