my thoughts, exactly ;)

You have the perfect opportunity for "back art!!" All my better quilts get some! I don't place a strip down the middle or right on the edge. If the backing gets tweaked at all during the quilting, it will be obvious. I place my add-in pieces off-center and even deliberately crooked

kwiltnutt 06-04-2011 09:41 AM

I did what quilter7x did. Works great and looks good.

franair 06-04-2011 09:48 AM

Same thing happened to me after I had it mostly pinned..Made me so angry.. Had to start from scratch again.. Always plan ahead and measure first....

redmadder 06-04-2011 09:55 AM

That's how I got started putting a row of the pieced blocks on the back at the top. I never have to wonder which way it goes on the bed!

Husband used to say, " It looks fine from Chicago," We live in Iowa. LOL Marge L.

nunnyJo 06-04-2011 11:38 AM

not to worry, you can always border the back with a color of the front?

Grandma Peg 06-04-2011 11:42 AM

Think we have all done that and might even again. Thank goodness it's an easy fix.

Kayaker26 06-04-2011 12:58 PM

My husband always says noone ever sees the back anyway...who cares!

I quilted a shower curtain and the back was short, added too it and when I sewed the binding on I could bearly see the mistake. No one noctice and I'm not telling.

quiltpd 06-04-2011 01:40 PM

Put the label over it and nobody will ever notice it, especially that guy riding past your house on horseback!!

soccertxi 06-04-2011 07:11 PM

oh..I have cut them too small, pieced them on the frame (don't ask...I looked like a contortionist!), loaded the backing sideways (on someone ELSE'S quilt)...oh yes..been there..done that..will probably do it again! WHEW

Oh..and the one I had to piece on the frame? I quilted a pin into it! and it was a gift...SIGH

I think that man is a KEEPER!

justwannaquilt 06-04-2011 07:15 PM

I always add my "practice" blocks to the back of my quilts. that way the seams are "supposed" to be there!

Stitchit123 06-04-2011 08:45 PM

I've never made one mistake in any of my quilts  I usually stop counting after the 3rd one and they are usually along the line of a 10 min to sew it and 30 to unsew it kind of thing I've even got a 3yr old queen size UFO that I got 3/4 of the way done before realizing I switched so many rows that the only way to save it was to completely dismantle it and I'm still ripping seams out. It was for my best friend/SIL's 50th B-Day I'm hoping I'll be able to give it to her on her 55th in 2013

What a good idea - I'll have to remember that one!

Me, too. I'd add the extra piece at about 3/4 of the way down. Split it again a bit off center vertially and add another different strip. Will look like you planned it all along, and it makes a more interesting back. After all, when you pull the quilt up, you often see the back!

Been there and done that myself :-) so please don't feel alone.

madamekelly 06-05-2011 10:25 PM

You could use the added strip to leave a message for the intended owner, as well as make it the label. Just a thought.

suecq 06-05-2011 11:48 PM

I would add a strip in the middle .

roxie623 06-06-2011 12:09 AM

Welcome to the club. LOL It happens but who else will know? You made the back like that on purpose didn't you. How clever you are. Sounds good huh?

Olivia's Grammy 06-06-2011 03:15 PM

Yep, member of the been there, done that club. I had my backing laying on the table. Pick it up thinking it was the left over piece. As I was tearing off a rather large piece, I realize it was the backing not the leftovers. Sew it right back on and laid it with the top.
