I'm a top maker and dread the rest. I've completed many tops of various sizes--mostly small, doll quilt to 40 x 40 wall hangings and baby quilts--in the past few months.

So the first goal was to get those eight layered and quilted during my week off in Feb. Check. Goal reached.

My next goal was to have those eight, plus a few more lap and baby quilts I hadn't finished, binded and done. Total project count: 15. The motivation is I can't start my next top--and I'm drooling over the fabrics--until all 15 projects are binded--the hand sewn part. Seems I like to quit just before that step is done.

I've been working at the pile all week after work. Today I finished the binding on projects 9, 10, and 11, and I have the next one pinned and ready to go.

The last three are 36" baby quilts that don't have a binding made yet, but that shouldn't take too long to finish those three.

The weather is terrible, so that is helping me make this goal much sooner than I expected. Yaaaayyyyy!!!

I know this isn't earth shattering news, but I had to share it with folks who would understand.

Here's the list I've been checking off:

Triple Irish Chain, lap top, done months ago, but binding never sewn on. DONE!

Triple Irish Chain in baby quilt size (leftover blocks) DONE!

Nursery Rhyme baby quilt DONE!

Thinking Outside the Block wall hanging DONE!

watercolor floral log cabin doll quilt DONE!

Watercolor floral wall hanging DONE!

Two Black and White Splash baby quilts for twins DONE!! and DONE!! and delivered!! :-D

Three two horse stall wall hangings. DONE! DONE DONE!!

Rose Garden lap quilt, 48 by 60 pinned and ready....

Three Talk-Abouts... need bindings.

WHEW!!!!

watterstide 03-05-2011 02:32 PM

bj 03-05-2011 02:33 PM

Just keep your eye on the prize...is it the bargello you were sharing pics of fabric for? That would keep me motivated or terrified!!! :D :D

Cherylsea 03-05-2011 02:35 PM

It sounds tremendously impressive to me!!! I've been so caught up with trying to get ahead of the weeds in my yard for once that I have hardly sewn at all this month. Sounds like you really whipped through a lot of work. congratulations!

lynnsim 03-05-2011 02:35 PM

Great! I know how hard it is to meet goals sometimes.

MamaBear61 03-05-2011 02:37 PM

You should be very proud of your accomplishments so far.

montanajan 03-05-2011 02:40 PM

As far as I'm concerned, that is too earth-shattering! Congrats on sticking to your plan. I should be so inspired.

YES!!!! :D  :D 8-) I just ordered two more perfect florals today--well first I consider them for the log cabin blocks--but I'm wondering if they will work in the Wildflower Bargello, too. I've kept the 20 florals laid out on my cutting table all these time to keep me going and to make changes, but no changes have been made in at least four days... so unless one of the new ones works well, I know what 20 made the cut!!!

Raggiemom 03-05-2011 02:42 PM

That's fantastic--way to stick to your guns! I'm down to 3 quilts to finish up. They'll definitely be done by the end of March (at least that's my goal! :) )

Congratulations.

barnbum 03-05-2011 02:45 PM

Aww, thanks... I knew I came to the right place. :D

Maia B 03-05-2011 02:51 PM

I love hand binding! I'd sit n stitch with u if I could! Great job, keeping plugging away! New fabric is calling...

Oh goodness...we have snow. I had to read your reply twice and check to see where you live! They say we could get up to 8" of heavy wet snow tomorrow. Gee, I can hardly wait, BUT that gives me more binding time!!! :D

Once the gardens need attention, my quilting slows way down. Can't fit everything in. :|

These look SO much better in person.... but this is what I've been drooling over as I stitch.

kso 03-05-2011 03:08 PM

Keep up the good work!

LoriEl 03-05-2011 03:24 PM

Sounds earth shattering to me! I should have such energy. Bet that bargello is going to be beautiful!

craftybear 03-05-2011 03:27 PM

Congratulations on working on your goals and getting items done

mcdaniel023 03-05-2011 03:35 PM

Way to go. Beautiful fabrics!

beckyw 03-05-2011 03:39 PM

I'm glad you are almost to your goal. That is lovely fabric. I'm working on getting my stash down and not buying fabric. It's gong well.

That will be my next goal, but I'm not making it just yet. Actually, I've tried it several times, and I've never been successful. Maybe I should start small, like not buy fabric for...for... a month. Nope, it'll never work. When I'm ready, I'll go week to week. Then reward myself with a new yard every time I make it.

lots2do 03-05-2011 03:54 PM

Good for you! It must feel great to have accomplished so much.

Pictures! Pictures! Pictures???

sewingsuz 03-05-2011 04:07 PM

Good JOB!!!

Butterflyblue 03-05-2011 04:09 PM

I hardly ever hand bind my quilts, especially the baby ones because I know they'll be washed a lot. Have you ever tried binding entirely by machine? It speeds up the process quite a bit.

I don't know where any tutorials are, but I'm sure they exist. I learned out of the book "Modern Quilt Workshop".

topper1 03-05-2011 04:09 PM

oh my so great....................

Here's the lap top I'm working on tonight... the photos I posted of it before didn't show true colors at all. Let me see if the ones I took today will show it more true.

Blue back... it's the water to keep the rose garden hydrated. ;-) This one shows it best--it's more yellowy than the top one.

Still not showing it buttery enough.

Baby quilt made from left over blocks from one below...

This one has been done for a long time, except, the, um binding.

Here's another...Rhyme Time. I love the echo quilting (not shown in this photo) and it has a pretty green binding now. :-)

I am both impressed and inspired. I am so close to meeting a similar goal, and this will inspire me to create and put the binding on the last quilt...THEN I can start another!!

Good for you! (and thanks for the inspiration....I don't mind sewing binding on, but I really don't seem to care for creating the binding, which, I know, takes much less time.)

Jim's Gem 03-05-2011 04:21 PM

You have been quite productive!!!! Congratulations on getting so much done. I really need to work on my stuff here. I have all kinds of stuff I need to finish up!!!

Your florals are so pretty!! I love floral fabrics!

susie-susie-susie 03-05-2011 04:25 PM

What an impressive amount of work. You should be proud of yourself. You deserve the reward you have planned for yourself. I will be starting the finishing process in a little over a month from now--that's when my classes are finished and I get to finish all the projects. Wish me luck.
Sue

Treasureit 03-05-2011 04:42 PM

You are an inspiration! Maybe I will pull out a UFO when I finish this current quilt.

Thanks. That was made with panel blocks with leftover blocks from a quilt called Basket Weave. I love it so much, I'm saving it for grandkids--when they show up. Plus, I didn't want to sell it because one fabric had some flaws.. I'm glad so it made the keeper decision easy. ;)

HummerGardenCrafts 03-05-2011 05:18 PM

Beautiful fabrics!!! And you sure got a lot done. Are you going to post pictures?

Way to go! I need to get more motivated too. It's just that there are so many great patterns and beautiful fabric that distracts me. lol. By the way, I'm drooling over your beautiful fabrics too.
