Perfection is highly over-rated!

I could never get anything done when I tried for perfection. Now I just do it all for fun and pleasure and I have lots of checked off things on my to do list. What I do notice though is that as I keep going my skills are improving. So without stressing I'm actually getting closer and closer to what is considered perfection. =)

And like many others here...I have memories and quilt tops from my grandma..who did NOT do it perfect. I even have some of her cardboard and sandpaper templates. But I treasure her quilts above all.

I chose a crazy quilt for my first because of the fear of not doing a job that would be acceptable. There are no mistakes in a crazy quilt. I doubt perfection was what our ancestors had in mind when they made quilts. My goal is just to try to make my quilts as natural as possible and as as near tothe traditional ones we so love. Then I will feel perhaps I have reached perfection------at least according to my definition.

stress is bad for your health... do your best and strive for IMPROVEMENT not perfection...
Do Not judge your work against others who may have more developed skill.
Ask questions from the board
and
be proud of your work...
this being said... go back to work and enjoy your craft... :)

I do it for fun :) I want it to look nice and be functional but perfection isn't something I strive for at anything. How incredibly dull a perfect world would be ;)

I agree with you all about perfection in quiltmaking- I also quilt for fun, hopefully improving my skills as well.

I don't have all the up-to-date gidgy-gadgets. I do the best I can with what I have and that is good enough for me. If somebody doesn't like it cause it isn't perfect, I feel sorry for them cause nothing in life is perfect and they are doomed to be disappointed.

I agree! I have quilted for several years because I enjoyed it and because it is an artistic outlet. After reading many of the posts it appears that I have been going at it all wrong - I should be quilting for perfection. And just whose idea of perfection is up for grabs. Think I'll just continue to quilt because it is my artistic outlet.

My grandmother would say, " I wouldn't give that house room" But only for her own work which was as close to perfect as it gets, but absolutely gracious to everyone else, even my wonky work as a 12 year old..

Strive for excellence, not perfection. In eveything.
