I have never done a perfect quilt in all the years Iv'e quilted. Only God is perfect in my opinion. Quiilting should be fun and relaxing for the most part. There are some frustrations but I call that the learning process. Like I said just my opinion I love what I do

I really do not want mine to be perfect. If they were I would have to make too many quilts. I now have a lot to do and then I would have more. Everyone that gets one of my quilts is very happy and appreciative and that is all that counts to me. I love quilting toooooooooooooo much to let a thread of two worry me.

All the talk about being sure that everything is "exact". Are we quilting because it's fun? We're making a loving gift? Or is perfection the goal?

I dont think the goal is perfection in itself, I think its just a way to make life a little easier by taking the time to be as close to perfect as you can as you go. It took me a long time to learn this lesson, but it really kicks the stress in the backside! :-D

I used to be a perfectionist as well. Then a close friend reminded me that only God can make a perfect--whatever. This made me realize how futile my attempts were. I now believe that each project is a learning experience and it is better to do a non-perfection project than to do nothing at all. Give it up.

I have been quilting since 1967. While I know the majority of my quilts were never perfect I am pleased with my accomplishments. I have learned over the years what I can and can not do and how much stress I am willing to cause myself over a quilt. The thing I am most proud of is that I always finish when I start a quilt. I have dear friends who have tops they labored over and stressed over for months that have yet to be quilted years later. In my world it is not a quilt until it is quilted and finished.

I quilt for me, do the best I can, but don't worry about perfection, & I get lots of compliments on my quilts. If it stops being fun, then I would give it up! I don't need alot of those fancy gadgets either, so am careful what I buy. I would rather buy more fabric, lol...

That's the reason I stick with simple patterns. I am having fun!

I recently finished my first star quilt. I had all sorts of trouble with things not coming together. This web site gave me some invaluable advice which I wish I had before I started. Having said that, now that the top is pieced, it is so far off perfect its not funny at all, however I had a good old laugh at myself and thought the next one will be better . I love this quilt, warts and all, and it will be on my bed as soon as I have taken it to get long arm quilted. I like things to be as near to perfect as they can be but quilting has been a great way for me to learn that it actually doesn't really matter, most of the time its only me who sees the mistakes. I love quilting and if I could I would quit my job and do it full time. I know the more I do the better I'll get and can't wait to start my next project!!!! :P

I think you are taking the word "perfection" too seriously. I think that all of these gadgets and directions are just trying to make your life easier and make it easier to make those teadious 1/4" seams. I only know one person who was ever perfect and because He was, my life is much easier.
