First off, in order to sandwich my quilt I have thumb tacked the backing fabric to the wall and will pin the batting and top to that. I lack the nessicary floor or tabletop space to sandwich a quilt of this size. When I got the backing on the wall I noticed it was wrinkled. I had ironed it the other nigt and it got wrinkled just sitting folded up in my room for the last couple days (at least it wasn't as bad as it was before I ironed it the first time). Refused to take the backing off the wall.......so here I am literally ironing the wall to get the wrinkles out of my backing fabric. I'm hoping no one walks in because I probably look like I'm not the brightest crayon in the box right now. lol.

LOL!!
Hopefully you don't melt the paint or something like that!!! |

We're all nuts.

Too funny. Necessity is the mother of invention.

I've never thought to tack one to the wall. I don't have wall space either, in an rv my floor space is very limited. What I have been doing is making my quilts in 2 pieces and then putting them together. My nephew is supposed to be taking some pictures of 2 of my quilts. I will post as soon as he gets them to me.
|
that's not daft at all.
both ideas are clever solutions to pesky problems. |
I have been rolling my quilt tops and it seems to help with the wrinkles. I know several people who sandwich their tops on their beds after putting cardboard or something like it down as a surface. I haven't tried that one yet. I'm considering asking my library if I can borrow one of their rooms to pin baste my queen-size quilt top since I too, lack the space.
|
As usual, you are hilarious!! :D:D:D
I happen to think it's a great idea!! |
That's a great idea, using the library.

Clever idea! :D:D:D

What a wonderful idea. I need to find a spare wall to use here.
|
all you had to do was spritz it with water and let it hang til dry, the moisture swell the threads and they in turn lose their wrinkles!
|
I made a quilt about 6 months ago that I made in 2 peices. Unfortunately it remains in 2 peices. I almost laid it on the table today to start putting the peices together. I was also thinking of making a kingsize quilt with 4 peices. It is too hard to handle otherwise.

I never thought of the wall idea. Thanks, I have to try it. Better then trying to get up off the floor.
|
When I have a really large quilt I tend to use one of 4 "quilt as you go" methods so I can handle it because I don't have any place to lay out either. Makes it much nicer. However, I like all of your ideas and love this forum for all the neat ideas people come up with.
|
could you sprinkle water and stretch lightly to get it out. I would worry about the wall.
|
Great idea!! I'd never think about paint melting, but I did wonder how many tacks you had to usr and what about tack holes?? Hey, what ever we can think to use is great! I did a small one on the bed. I used one of those fold up cutting boards( cardboard kind). I could stick T-pins straight down, and used clothes pin type clips to hold it at the board edge. It worked pretty good!
|
Always remember, lol!
People who mind don't matter, & people who matter don't mind! Just don't hurt the wall, okay! |
LOL LOL LOL :!:

I love this board - forget the quilt notions - you all have way more inventive ideas! This board is the best teacher there ever was!

lol

So funny.

:-) :-) A quilters got to do what a quilters got to do !

Hey whatever works!

Sometimes it matters not which road one takes, but the arrival. Marvel

I wonder; perhaps a cork tiles(board) placed high on the wall and then you could tack the backing, etc onto it and then the wall would not be damaged. Also, if one is thinking that the cork might leave a stain on the backing you could cover the tile with plastic wrap or whatever works and proceed with sandwiching your quilt. What do you think? This might only be one solution.
|
Hey, I understand--you do what you have to do!!!! lol
|
Now...where is my camera when I need it???? :D:

Wish I had a wall large enough to do the one I am now working on.

Have you thought of using a fabric steamer? Just a thought.
