I finally got the border attached and now I need to finsh this log cabin. I have only hand quilted small projects and I am not very good so I need ideas. Is SID best/easiest? Will that magnify any problem corners I may have? If not SID should I be doing geometric or curves? Should I only do some blocks quilted and combine with some tying to make it more manageble? (I have done that in the past) do I have to get a frame to do this? Or maybe I should have a local church group hand quilt it for me? Help?!?!

How about thread color? The backing will be a brown with small print. Thanks!

Very Pretty, I am hand quilting a log cabin for DDIL and I am doing a hear in each block, May have to add a little more and a scroll on the border. Hers is black and red with black back and I am using red thread.
For yours I think I would use ecru.

I've done 3 log cabins in my lifetime, working on the 4th.... I've hand quilted all of them, I'm kind of boring, I like the simple look of SID, mostly to show off the colors as they're mostly scrappy.The last one I did was a baby quilt, I did SID on the green blocks, and a daisy pattern in the yellow... Here's a foto... you don't need a frame to hand quilt, but it does need to be basted at the very least, or you'll have bunches everywhere

Another possibility is to hand sew down the middle of each log. You can do a geometric spiral this way, starting from the middle of the block and working through the middle of each log.

I love the look of Baptist fan on a log cabin quilt, but there would be way too much crossing of seams to make it worthwhile for hand quilting.

It is a beutiful quilt. I would do an allover interlocking orange peel shaped pattern, the shape of the flower petals in the print. Since the striped sashing is so geometric the curved piecing would soften it. As for stitch in the ditch as a handquilter I never do that. I often echo the seams a 1/4 inch a way from the stitching line to stabilize the seams, especially if it is handpieced. You could do it without a hoop or frame if you basted it well and supported the parts of the quilt you were not working on with a table or other flat surface. I often take my quilts off of the frame to finish the borders. I lay the whole thing out on my ping pong table and turn it to the unfinished portions as need be.
