there is a book by Carol Doak, I think? It is PP stars of the fifty states. I'll get the name and edit this post. They are really cool!

The book is called 50 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars, by Carol Doak. I think this would be a great idea. The Ohio Star is real nice. Maybe you could do a search to find it and see if it might be something for you to try. Do you do
P-Ping?

How about this one.

Oh, I thought you meant a quilt for the university. Ignore if I'm wrong.

Okay, I'm confused. Just what are you asking for? Ideas?
Ideas to interpret your way or the symbol for the OS University?

What are the school colors. Start there
What is the school mascot?
school Motto?
Song?

Ask some of these ?'s and you may come up with something cool!
peace :D

taiboo 06-25-2011 02:53 PM

I'm looking for anything....Inspiration, ideas, pictures etc... I need to make a quilt for someone who is going to Ohio State in the fall...and I'm just drawing blanks LOL

I love the Block O quilt. It one of the better one's that I've seen. Also other things to consider putting in it are a Cardinal, Horseshoe, Woody Hayes, and a Helmet with
buckeye leafs on it. Yes, I live in Ohio about an hour drive from the stadium. Also the Ohio State archway on campus. You should be able to get some pictures of it by looking at the OSU website. Another place on campus the Mirror Lake. Google any of these. I'm not sure what kind of quilt that you want to make. But this is a hodgepodge of OSU.

Maybe you don't really want a school related quilt but one that reflects the person you are giving it to!

taiboo 06-25-2011 03:04 PM

I talked to her mom about it and asked that same question....She told me she would LOVE an ohio state quilt...I just need to focus and figure it out

There are a few ideas on this website that may give you the needed inspiration.

http://www.youresewspecial.biz/

I googled The Ohio State University Quilts, and came up with a few sites that sold quilts. Perhaps that would help.

Dina 06-25-2011 03:23 PM

Maybe you can find some Ohio State fabric? My sister just did one for a nephew going to UCLA, and she found three different choices of fabric. I think she just googled it. She ordered it from somewhere. Then she just used the fabric in a pattern that only needed 3 fabrics. It turned out great.

Dina 06-25-2011 03:25 PM

Okay, I just googled Ohio State fabric and it took me to Ebay where there were several choices. One is on sale for 11 more hours...you might check it out.

No OSU fabric is available. They won't allow it to be licensed (not sure I worded that correctly). I do know of someone who bought OSU sheets, and cut those up to use. I was afraid to ask what they cost, since I think they are only available from university bookstores. You can buy OSU fleece throws, and use that fabric.

Hmm - that's the fabric that was the sheet fabric I mentioned in my post. I wonder where they bought it as fabric.

I've been looking for OSU fabric for years. It's true that they do not license the fabric for sell to the public. Sheets, bedspreads and t=shirts are the only things I can think of that has the logo. You can check out Buckeye Corner to see what they have.

http://www.buckeyecorner.com/

also Buckeye Connection

http://thebuckeyeconnection.mybigcommerce.com/

The Buckeye Corner has window treatments for $25 and a valance for $17. I've seen these cut up to be used as 'aprons' around a dish soap bottle. This might work. I've also seen shower curtains used. I actually have an OSU bathroom. I've got one curtain on it with a spare with a different pattern when I get tired of that one. But the fabric isn't really 100% cotton. I bought both shower curtains at Walmart in Ohio.

Shower curtain 72 x 72 polyester

This one is on now. 72 x 72 polyester

If she is a good friend why not use the school colors and make an hugs and kisses pattern. She will always have a hug and a kiss from you!
peace

taiboo 06-25-2011 04:06 PM

Dear tailboo, i have to be honest with this. I just don't think that material would make a nice quilt. maybe a backing. an irish chain in those colors would be nice, and the OSU sheet for a backing!

taiboo 06-25-2011 07:44 PM

I dont' typically use sheets and such to make quilts...Maybe i will just do one in the colors of the school...I just need to research what exactly the red looks like.

I appreciate everyone's help!!!

One of my customers wanted to do an OSU quilt for her son. She did a variation of the one that someone has already sent you a picture of above, but she personalized it by adding his name across the top, and then the year he graduated across the bottom. He loved it!

mardilee 06-26-2011 03:22 AM

Why not make a quilt of Ohio stars in Ohio State colors?

When I need inspiration I usually go to the internet and do google image searches. If I want a blue quilt I might type in "blue quilts" if I want log cabin, I type in "log cabin quilts" or "paper pieced quilts", or "grand prize quilts"....you get the idea, anyway its like a mini quilt show of my own design and great for inspiration.
Hope this helps,
Miki

For graduation quilts, I have used fabrics which reflect the person's interests and have used college colors where possible. I was even able to use H.S. colors as cornerstones once; its a transition after all.

I wanted to purchase OS fabric and came up empty handed. they guard their brand market like few other colleges. I found a few curtains and a shower curtain that I considered cutting up. Still thinking about how to do it.

I have two favorite books that provide me with so many ideas. Material Obsession and Material Obsession 2. They are both by Kathy Doughty and Sarah Fielke. The books start with easier quilts and then graduate to much more complex ones. I made 4 quilts from the first book and am now deciding between 2 in the second book. These two books will keep you going for quite awhile.

This is great. Is there more info available - like how long are the strips, and what are the angles?

I didn't calculate the angles - just did it on my drawing program freehand. You can take the jpeg to Kinkos or Staples and have them enlarge it to whatever size you want. They can go as large as 3ft x 4ft or so. Then, just measure the finished sizes of the strips and make your strip sets. Cut the Kinkos copy into sections and lay it out on your strips as a cutting diagram. Should work okay - need to add a seam allowance.

Well, my daughter made the quilt, and just copied something she saw. No Pattern.

Quiltmaker has a good pattern. The center block is appliqued school letters..and the rest of the quilt is nine patch on point of school colors. Let me see if I can find a picture and I will post it.

http://www.suzannesquilts.com/newssept17.htm
Here is a site that has that quilt. You have to scroll WAAAY down. The picture is of people sitting in the stands with a quilt.
Its called School Spirit. PM if you have questions on this one.

I also made a USC quilt. I scanned the logo and then used Wonder Under to make a machine applique. I just edge stitched it..I'm not good at satin stitch. I did have USC fabric, But the blocks are just postitive and negative of the 2 colors.
