I need a new iron
 

I need a new iron. I see the one they use on "Sewing with Nancy". You never have to sit it up, I don't know what brand it is but - since I need a new iron (just to be used for quilting), I thought I'd come to the experts. If you were getting a new iron to use for quilts (and making little outfits for my granddaughter), what would you get?

I love my rowenta was just looking at another one at Lowes the other day, I do not need one but nice to have a extra if I have friends over for a stitching day.

Are you referring to the Olisio? It raises itself up so it won't scorch. Nice iron, but real pricey.

Well, I was in the same position last year, checked on this board, took all the advice, pros and cons of several brands and models. Consensus was that the Rowenta's leaked allot, but someone said get one that was German made and it should be ok. I bought an "master", I think it was around $60.00, so I just bought it. That was 7 months ago. I HATE it!! It was find in the beginning and I am careful about cleaning it regularly etc, use tap water, etc and a few days ago, NIAGARA FALLS!! It leaks water from the base and just below the sole plate. I have tried everything. I wonder if CostCo will take it back this late?? Several people swear by the cheap Black and Decker, and I read good things about B&D Digital Advantage for about $50.00 and their "steam advantage" for around $36.00. I think I might get one of them and see. Good luck. I think it is luck of the draw with Rowenta.

I have the Oliso...it is definitely NOT worth the money. I'd say go to Big Lots or Walmart and pick up a $10 cheapy. I learned my lesson the hard (and expensive) way.

I bought 1 on the German economy for about $15. So far so good. I am getting a little leakage, but I think it is only happening when i overfill it. gotta keep track and see if that is really it..... Bosch is a good german brand, but not sure if they do irons.
Most people on the board seem to be happier with the cheap, replaceable kind...

I bought a Rowenta Steamium and was not very pleased with it.

I found two old irons at an estate sale this weekend and tested them right then and there. As soon as they started getting warm, I snatched them up. I haven't even fully fired them up, but I got them both for $5. I have no need for 2 irons (now 3, since I have my cheapie Dollar General iron). They are the small, heavy ones. Maybe I could use one for quilts and one for clothes? Nahhhhh.. Probably not! When I quit smoking, I took up ironing, and I pressed everything that came out of the washing machine! I got burnt out on that fast! Now I avoid ironing like the plague!

I have had the Rowenta, it leaked after a while, now use the cheap Black and Decker. I don't put water in it, use spritz the fabric with water from a spray bottle, works great.

I like my Rowentas. Have used one for about 6 years now without any problems. Also bought the little Rowenta travel type iron (also has steam function) to take to quilting gatherings with me.
