Ripped on Scotch 08-09-2011 10:19 AM

I know I'm a procrastinator! and I did start a quilt for a friends wedding but I don't think she will like it anymore. So I'm back to the drawing board, and looking for some ideas. The wedding is in less then 3 weeks. Anyone have a quick pattern that I can whip up? I was looking online, really like the Delectable Inspirations from AllpeopleQuilt.com & an Irish chain but anything quick that you can think of would help me out! thanks!

Try a disappearing nine patch! They look harder than they really are. . . . .

Google-Wickedly Easy Quilts. They take a few fat quarters and no time at all. Good luck and please show us pictures. :)

I'm thinking X marks the spot because the X's look like hugs. You could also look at Bonnie Hunter's site www.quiltville. She has looks of fast quilts and easy too. Warm Wishes is a nice pattern especially if you have a great focus fabric for the main squares. Nice examples in the Picture Gallery here.

Here's a link to a version of the D9P I made, so easy and various layouts which make great secondary patterns too!

Here is a picture of the blocks and the link to the tutorial:

I think Warm Wishes pattern looks very intricate but it's so simple to make. I made a fast quilt using 10" blocks with that pattern. Here is the free pattern:

Here is one I made, it's basted now but not quilted yet.

Why does it say "locked"? Cannot download it...I want to but can't

lindy-2 08-09-2011 10:41 AM

log cabin with larger strips 2 or 2.5" wide realy quick and looks like alot off work.

BellaBoo 08-09-2011 10:41 AM

My DD bought yards of that green and leaf print fabric for me to make curtains to hide a closet that had no door in her first apartment! I still have some in my stash. I haven't seen it anywhere until your picture. :-)

The one I made for a birthday last weekend went really fast (had to...started it on Thursday evening for Saturday birthday).

I did 4-1/2" strips of various butterfly fabrics alternating with 2-1/2" strips of lime green. Stitched the strips into a tube and cut 4-1/2" strips off the tube which I then alternated with 2-1/2" lime green strips.

This worked out to be 5 squares by 9 squares. By adding a 1" border then a 3" border it ended up being approximately 45x60.

I tied little narrow darker purple ribbon bows at each intersection.

You can see a picture on the Picture thread "Caitlin's birthday quilt"

You could easily make this whatever size you want by adding more and/or wider strips.

My Diamonds Are Forever is very quick and can be whipped up in a day or two. Have a quick peep at www.quiltingthejourney.com and go to The Quilt Gallery. I can send it to you today. Best wishes, Therese

do you think this one is a bit to much for my time frame?

I suggest that you cut the pieces for Wickedly Easy from a full width of fabric. Seems like FQs arent always exactly what they should be. This pattern uses every bit of a true FQ. I have made this several times.

cherylynne 08-09-2011 01:12 PM

How about a Take 5? Not a free pattern, but works up quickly.

ube quilting 08-09-2011 03:12 PM

take a look at this one. I made this in one week. I did the binding on the machine with the walking foot.
Its just strips as long and wide as you want them.
It could be just grid quilted or all over stippling for easy quilting.

Your choice is a bit involved for three weeks unless you have all the time in the world! I would save that one for another time. It is very nice.

Shelbit30 08-10-2011 02:55 AM

Take 5, 5 fabrics, 5 hours and you're done except the quilting :)

meanmummy 08-10-2011 03:23 AM

wow that's a great pattern

Sunnye 08-10-2011 03:27 AM

I love the Wickedly Easy quilts. They are quick and easy and nice looking.

sarahrachel 08-10-2011 03:44 AM

I think a double Irish chain would be really pretty. I love that pattern so maybe that's why I like your suggestion, but turning 20 is fairly easy as well with almost no waste. Post pics of whatever you choose though!

BMP 08-10-2011 03:49 AM

Stacked coin ??? thats always fast and very nice looking.

I've got a quickie Bento Box made with fat eighths. You can do almost all the blocks for a queensize in a day.

Ripped on Scotch 08-10-2011 04:42 AM

I didn't even think of a bento box.... I have to start picking fabrics tonight if I want to get this done. oh decisions decisions!

blackbearbetty 08-10-2011 04:53 AM

Warm Wishes comes to mind. That would be quick and easy.

quiltymom 08-10-2011 04:56 AM

Dissapearing 4 patch is very fast!

Margie 08-10-2011 05:14 AM

What about the ten minute quilt blocks....look at youtube.com for the instructions.

vicki reno 08-10-2011 05:20 AM

I just did a Linus quilt using large 5"squares sewn into 4 patches with sashing around each block. The twist was that there were 9 1/2" blocks thrown in with large flowers fused and then topstitched to keep them secure. The idea came from a Henry Glass pattern I found on the internet called "Sugar Blossoms". They used flowery fabrics and I used juvenile prints. It looks complicated, but I got a 45" X 54" cut out, sewn and quilted in a week!

Mkotch 08-10-2011 05:29 AM

How about a windowpane quilt? Cut 4" squares (or larger) of your favorite fabric and sash with a contrasting color. Or you can make it scrappy by cutting differently colored squares.

It printed fine.

gmcsewer 08-10-2011 06:08 AM

friend was needing a quilt in a hurry so she just enlarged a block pattern that she liked (hers was a basket set on points) and sewed big pieces together and made big blocks. Set block pattern in the center which was a heart pattern. She will embroider the recipients' names in the heart block. Wide borders so it goes faster.

They are also very quick to make. I can make enough for a quilt in less than a day using precut square that I have by the dozens.

I make pinwheels using two equal pieces of fabric right sides together. Sew a quarter inch around the outside of the squares making sure they are right sides together. When that's done, cut them on both diagonals. You will then have 4 pieces. Press them flat and sew them back together. You will have two halves of the pinwheel block and once you sew the two halve together you will have one complete pinwheel. It's easy, but may sound complicated. The beauty of this method is that there are no tiny triangles to cut out. I did 17 of them at our sewing bee last month. I already had 5" squares cut out and just got right down to sewing.

Try the Potato Chip pattern. Only two colors of
fabric and just plain old squares done in reverse
color combinations.

I suggest the 10 minute block.
My sister made a queen size in 2 days.
here's the picture of hers.
