Me and my mouth!!! I was chatting with a friend about quilts and I told her I had been playing with some ideas like a friend on this board did (Izy and her baby quilts). I doodled a couple of things outta my head on a scrap piece of paper...one quilt for a boy, one quilt for a girl....her daughter took a peek and said I'll give you $150.00 each to make them for me.

Now...look what I've got going...not enough time to do them, but here is some of the girl quilt in parts. I have to redo part of her skirt (I don't like it) and I have to redo her eyes...they aren't the same size..she looks demented! I'll be embroidering eyebrows, nose and mouth.

Too cute! I don't think she looks demented at all. Will be an adorable quilt for a little girl.

MsSage 07-14-2009 05:04 PM

She is not demented at all LOL She is WONDERFUL

I hope this is extra fabric you really were not going to be using. I know I spent over $130 and thats not including the batting for Davids cousin's quilt. Yes I have some left over but not enough to make another quilt.
sshhhh I hope he dont read this  I never told him how much I spent LOL
Its a way to get started then you can start getting your price in line to make some money and not just pay for the fabric.

kluedesigns 07-14-2009 05:14 PM

thats wonderful. its so great when people admire your work so much that they want to buy quilts from you.

congrats and have fun making the quilts.

Ducky 07-14-2009 05:25 PM

How sweet is this? Very creative! Maybe it's because it's just a picture, but I can't see the demented eyes, either!

cutebuns 07-14-2009 05:46 PM

That is so great!

I don't think that she looks demented either.

littlehud 07-14-2009 06:08 PM

That is so cute. Some little girl will love that.

sewnsewer2 07-14-2009 07:07 PM

Wow, lucky you! That's cute! Is the boy going to be just like it?

tlrnhi 07-14-2009 07:08 PM

gcathie 07-14-2009 07:11 PM

quiltluvr 07-14-2009 11:50 PM

Good for you! If it results in making money, you oughtta open your mouth more often.

Izy 07-15-2009 12:59 AM

Woo Hoo!! You go girl Patti!!

Well I think she is absolutely cute as a button!!

Isn't it just great fun making up your own designs, I have just started my old cogs rolling for another baby quilt, been up since 5am thinking about it and searching my laptop for inspiration as one of our favourite Spanish waiters is due their first baby in September!!

Loving the look of this one Patti, glad I managed to catch this post!! :D :D :D

Lacelady 07-15-2009 02:09 AM

Brilliant - no one has offered me a penny! Congratulations - this could be the start of a whole new career.

reneebobby 07-15-2009 02:26 AM

She looks fine to me along with the skirt. I love her.

Quilting Aggi 07-15-2009 02:40 AM

too cute!!! Looks like you started something great Sandpat!

sandpat 07-15-2009 03:46 AM

Well, maybe the eyes will look better when she gets her makeup on (eye brows) and of course, nose and mouth. Thanks all. I did fix the skirt last night. It is really going together quicker than I thought it would. If DH would quite inerrupting me, I'd almost be done!! Can't imagine why he thinks I need to cook, run errands, grocery shop...???? He obviously has his priorities all wrong!!

Yea...it is mostly fabric from my stash. But...I would be buying and making something anyway and probably donating it to someone..so a little cash doesn't hurt anything, right??? This is certainly not a hobby for sissies!! It can get very expensive!

The boy design is similar, but it will involve lizards and snails and puppy dog tails instead of the sugar and kisses....

tlrnhi 07-15-2009 03:49 AM

I can send you lizards! How many do you need? lol

Great job Patti! Can't wait to see it all together.

How cute!! And, what a keepsake!! Now sandpat, I haven't read thru all the notes on this...but, here's what I'd suggest...add a piece of something light and 3D over the top of her skirt now...w/o taking anything apart...bet everyone will be peeking underneath!LOL And, of course they will see more shoes:)Don't worry about even eyes...a great fix is highlights!! Can embrod. thread them on. If you took a sewing pin w/metal back...stuck it in a pencil eraser, then touched paint, then barely touched a piece of paper...you'd have the idea of size and how easy!:)Do 2..one larger then the other. Could candlewick the highlights too. If you need to add some softness to her eyes still after highlights...can, make 2 simple eyelashes out of the outside corners of her eyes.

I love it!! I love it just like it is!! Skeat

Skeat, what great ideas! I had thought that I would do a little white thread meandering on the green part under the skirt to make it look frilly. I love the idea of the peeping under her skirt...hmmm...how do I do it with something that would stand up to washing? Since this is sold before I even made it..I'd hate to give her something that wouldn't wash well. I had planned on the hightlights in the eyes..but with either french knots of just sewing small dots. Her eyebrows are really arched. I'm doing her face tonight..maybe I can post her face tomorrow.

sandpat 07-15-2009 04:17 PM

Thanks everyone for the compliments...she is starting to come together and its a lot of fun working on her. I'll do better with the boy since this is a learning experience

Marcia 07-15-2009 06:47 PM

How CUTE is that???? I love it!!

earthwalker 07-15-2009 10:39 PM

What an amazing amount of talent appears on this board. I think your design is excellent....who knows where this will lead. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished quilt and the boy version too. Happy quilting.

eparys 07-16-2009 02:08 AM
