You all know Paco, my embroidery machine. Well he developed a very nasty case of the hiccups.

The tension went out of whack. I did the adjustments suggested in his manual, nothing changed.

So I called the local Brother repair place, explained what was going on. She promptly tells me it will cost $124.00 to look him over and fix the problem. And that their turnaround time is a week out.

Well after supper, I went back into to have a chat with ol' Paco. I took the bobbin area apart once again. Set the tension back to where it was originally, set the top tension back.

And what do I spy??????

A tiny piece of lint the size of a little silver pinhead. Stuck between the plastic case and the metal area the thread slips through. I pulled it out with a pair of tweezers. Put everything back together, loaded a clean hoop and tried again.....SUCCESS !!!

Paco no longer has the hiccups.

My husband is taking me to Portland next week for my birthday, a concert and shopping are on the agenda as well as a wonderful dinner.

Candace 10-29-2010 08:50 PM

Excellent, now spend 1/2 of that on fabric and you're still ahead:>

Yarn or Fabric 10-30-2010 03:20 AM

Awesome! I am sure my machine is due for a cleaning as well!!
I'm glad you went back in there to have a chat with Paco.. and that he coughed up his hairball! :D

ktmo815 10-30-2010 04:04 AM

isn't it wonderful when we can fix our own problems!! :-D

quilt3311 10-30-2010 04:07 AM

That was a nice payday. $124 in your pocket instead of the fix it guy. Sometimes we can fix things if we just try.

DITTO !!!!

MaggieLou 10-30-2010 07:37 AM

Don't you just love it when that happens? It usually pays to put something aside for a while then try again. Amazing what you can find out then.

Chasing Hawk 10-30-2010 08:13 AM

Thanks everyone,

I am pretty pleased with myself. Paco is computerized so it's rather scary for me to even go after him with a set of tools......LOL

I hate to start messing with their brain pans (LOL) and the tensions on either machine. But I save all the manuals and books that come with them so I can at least find the default setting.

I really didn't care for her attitude anyways when she found out I didn't buy the machine from her. I had gone into her shop when I was looking for an embroidery machine, but she kept steering me to a more expensive model with stuff I didn't want or need.

So I ended up buying Paco from a store in New York, where the gentleman who took my order was extremely polite. I had called him a couple of times to ask questions each time he was a gentleman.

Bonbonary 10-30-2010 08:17 AM

Good for you. It seems every time I have problems, it's with the bobbin!

I totally agree on using savings on fabric. With the prices going up on fabric, an investment in stash could mean another big savings in the near future.
