I just started sewing and quilting in Sept. So....obviously I'm new and I am not proficient yet. The very first thing I started on was a king size quilt, because you know....have to bite off more than I can chew! Stopped working on it so I could make Christmas stuff.

Well...I have learned a bit since I last worked on my quilt, and boy howdy do I see the mistakes and mess ups in my quilt! The top is about 3/4 finished, and I haven't wanted to finish it because now I don't like it and am not proud of it.

I got it out last night and decided to finish it since I had come this far on it. No point in wasting all that material not to mention the hours and tears and cussing that went into it. It sure is wonky though. Sigh. Guess I can line the doghouse with it!

Go on and finish it.. We all have to have our 'first' quilt.. As you continue to make more and more quilts you will get better and better. Just think of it as 'one of a kind' ! Seriously, Don't beat yourself up for not having a perfect first quilt.. As with everything in life it takes practice, and think of this your practice run.. Ive been quilting for three years now and I'm still practicing!!

Yeah, like the rest of us haven't done the same thing! Finish it for your pride, study it for the education and show it off for the sheer fun of it. At least it will be finished. which is a whole lot better than never done!

When it's done you might learn to like it. But if not, then donate it to any family member or friend who likes it. Or to a woman's shelter, one with kids. They will really enjoy it, that's what quilts are for, keeping people warm.

Remember, no one else (with the possible exception of a quilt show judge with a magnifying glass) is going to check it out for anything wrong. Family will think of the love in it and not be able to see the small defects, if any, that loom large to you.

Loom...I like that. Yes, there is a huge shadow looming over me. LOL

First quilts are for enjoying and educating ourselves. Be proud you have gotten that far and can see ways to improve next time! I think I would hang on to it so every time you have a difficult project, you can look at this one and see how far you have advanced!

I did the same thing and started a kingsize quilt for my first quilt. Know better now. No one told me that wasn't a good idea. Finish it and you'll be so proud of yourself for perservering!!

My daughter took that pic. It was a horse that bucked me off and separated my shoulder. Now that I say that I wonder why I have that pic there! Like I want to remember that.... 8-)

Finish it! Quilts started out as utilitarian, but now we think they have to be perfect......wrong. They still keep us warm at night, no matter how 'imperfect'. Finish it and put it on your bed under your bed topper. You'll be the only one that knows it isn't perfect, but as you cuddle under it at night, you won't care.
