I think I hit the Jackpot - what do you think?

Found a Singer 66- on Craiglist for $20. She is AL 088371 -or- AL888371.
She must have been stored in a very dusty space. She was full of dust and spider webs. I cleaned all that out and oiled her and she has been sitting for about a month. She has a cherry cabinet and runs a little stiff, but I am working on her. Need to print a manual. Tell me what you know about her. (PICTURE #1) Went to a yard sale back in the summer and bought this bolt of black & white for $5. Washed a piece and no shrinkage. I think it is poly/cotton blend. (PICTURE #2) At Goodwill last Thursday bought the tub of (39) thread (red, dark gray, & white) on wooden spools for $2. and all the fabric (I have washed) for $2. (PICTURE #3) Jackpot - All this for $29. J J (jbj137) |

I'd say you made some great deals !!!
wow, jackpot for sure!!!!
Jackpot for sure. Congratulations!
If it's the 888 number, then it's a Singer 66, number allotted November 12, 1954, manufactured in the Elizabethport plant in Elizabeth, NJ. 088 would be a model 15, September 23, 1952.
I have downloaded several different manuals for the 66. If you pm me with your email address I'd be glad to email them to you. |
Great find! How fun.

I have No idea of how much is on that bolt, but it is 60" wide and roughly 2" from tube to edge. I want to make a qult and add some red to it. Or even use for backing. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR COMMENTS. J J J J |
Oh, good for you! I am looking for a treasure like this. You give me hope that spurs me on. Great purchase!
nice machine....and your fabric..I don't think if poly blend...it has a white selvage! most poly blends won't have that, in fact most don't have a real selvage! You can do the burn test on a small piece to know for sure, but I think it is cotton, just GOOD cotton! Rolls like that is how we used to get fabric in the old days, and then it had to be "bolted" on this big old machine...I miss those days...I could bolt fabric all day..I loved that job! OH..that was at Hancock fabrics!

You did a super job of finding great sales.
A wonderful Singer, so many seem to be for sale. You have a great one there! Haven't found one for me yet, but I will keep looking.
Jackpot is a great discription -- but not sure if it is adequate. I'm quite envious!
Great finds! I never seem to be able to find them, but am always happy for the people who do. Pretty machine!
You got blessed, finding all that. In joy.
You will LOVE the machine! The cabinet and machine are just like the one I sewed on from the time I started sewing as a teenager until our house burned in 2000. Did not attempt to rescue it, wish I had, as the fire inspector said it did not appear to be damaged (was in a somewhat protected area). If I find one again, I'm going to try to get one.
My featherweight is the closest I've come to finding a similar one. |
Check your belts on the Singer, if its been sitting for awhile they may be brittle and that makes for a bit of a drag on the motor!
I think you won the 'Winner take All' :-)
Best, d |
Great buys. Watch out for the thread, might be weak, or break easily. Old thread is ?????
I want you to show me where to shop.
I found this site about Singer and posted it to the forum. http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...s-t132994.html I have my Grandma's Singer and found a lot of information. You really did hit the jackpot with all of your great finds. :)
That sure is a jackpot
I love it when something happy happens to good people! :)
Wonderful!! She is a nice-looking machine. Love the black & white fabric!!

I really do not plan to use the thread, but
the wooden spools wil llook nice in a jar. Yes the belt is still pliable but too loose. I have a new one coming from E-Bay. J J |
