I agree Moda flannel is the best now.

I make a lot of charity quilts and use flannel sheets for the back. I buy sheets at yard sales and at bedding sales, usually the flat king size. I always wash them before giving and the backs seem fine.

Another vote here for Moda flannels. I use them a LOT and haven't ever had a problem with them. They're wonderfully soft and have minimal shrinkage (I don't even prewash them).

I agree with the Moda lovers. I have made 3 quilts using Moda Woolies and they are wonderful. One I gave to my daughter 2 years ago and she uses it daily and washes frquently. I just commented to her last weekend how wonderful it is wearing. I didn't realize there were bad flannels out there since I have only used the Woolies. Thanks for the heads up! I will be sure to steer clear.

I'm making a rag quilt now. Didn't prewash so I guess I'll find out how the flannel is when I wash it after I'm finished with it. Didn't even think about using flannel sheets as backings...good idea. Thanks for all the comments...learned a lot.

I have a front loading washing machine and back in December I was making a flannel rag quilt for a SIL. After it was finished, I washed it and low and behold it stopped up my washing machine so bad I had to get a repairman out to unclog it. I bought this flannel from JoAnn's! Will never buy flannel from them again. I have used Connecting Threads and Moda before on rag quilts and never had a problem.

I bought a bolt of offwhite flannel from Joanns and its horrible...It did the same....it did not even look like flannel once washed. I will dig it out later and let you know the brand. I was very, very disappointed...I love using flannel and this was the first time I ever had a problem with it. It looked very worn after washing it. It was for a friend that gave me all the material for the front of the quilt...so I felt really bad when I gave it to her. I don't think it will last long. ; (
