i think this is what heaven looks like :)
last night, while having a SLLLOOOWWW night of having dinner in front of the boob tube, i asked DS if he wanted me to make him a quilt. now, every time i ask him if he wants a knitted item, he gets a bit shy and doesn't want to be too "demanding." so, naturally, i was expecting to have to convince him to say yes. boy, was i wrong.
he looked at me and said in his best "duh, isn't the answer obvious" voice "YYYEEEEEAAAAAHHHHH!!! do you know how warm those things are??!!" lol. i was floored! i QUICKLY showed him pinterest and asked him to look at pictures with me! aaww, my boy wants me to make him a quilt!! from the ones that made him go "oooh" and "aaahhh," it seems that the young man likes modern quilts and he likes jewel tones! i can't wait to start! sadly, it's going to have to wait until the second half of the year, but YAY!! |
Wonderful! Look at all the time you have to plan a pattern and choose the fabric.

Yay! i totally get how you feel!
i'm always afraid my boys won't want me knitting or quilting for them... recently my youngest got a brand new keyboard, which came without a cover. I offered to make him a quilted cover, and he said "sure!!", when i gave hime a choice of three color sets, he picked the orange/aqua over the red/ivory and brown/black... which even his brother liked!! and once i was into the quilting, he even asked me to explain how i decided the designs, and declared the secondary pattern that came up to be "crafty"!! Made my day :) and today my eldest asked me to knit him a slouchy!! |
I do have to agree with your assessment of heaven. How wonderful your son not only wants one but enthusiastically wants one and is being so active in the process. I don't know about you, but the giftee is constantly on my mind when I am making them a quilt.
I think the best thank you I ever got for a quilt was when I made my DMIL one and after giving to her and her oohing and ahhhing over it, she scrunched it up and hugged it close to her and said "I can't believe someone loves me so much they made me a quilt" I just about melted into a puddle of goo right then and there. |
Oh I am so happy for you! Thank you for posting!!! There is nothing better!
Your son reminds me of mine - not wanting to be pushy or a burden, but thrilled to be the one I'm making a quilt for! It is all about love. |
Awwwwwww. What a good son!

merryamethyst - yes! you understand... we spent a good amount of the evening talking about the difference between a blanket and a quilt and about different quilting techniques. it was AWESOME!
feline fanatic - that brought a tear to my eyes. what an AMAZING and TOUCHING thank you. |
Yoohoo! That is so great. It's fantastic when someone is excited to get a quilt

MERRYAMETHYST--the keyboard cover is beautiful! I should see if any of my people need instrument covers!

I love your story and know exactly what you mean. My son's Air Force duties means he flies the world alot - sometimes in the back of cargo planes - that can be cold and drafty. He asked me last year to make him a warm quilt - but not too big to pack in his gear. I used faux suede - which is poly and warm - front and back and poly batting. Very washable too. He loved it!! It IS heaven when our sons - at whatever age - still want something special just for them from their "mommy".
