That is so nice! My son started his first year of college and I made him a nice cuddly quilt to take with him... and left it at home. He said that his dorm is hot and the quilt is just too heavy. But he uses it at home and he will always have it. Maybe in time he will use it more.

That is like the quilt I made for my husband's grandmother. She loved it, and told me with teary eyes that NOBODY had ever made a quilt for her, in her whole life!

I was so touched, I cried. I love that lady and I was unbearably proud to have given her something that she obviously treasures. She is bedridden and every time I visit she shows me that the quilt is right there on her bed and tells me that she loves just looking at it and stroking the flannel backing. Totally melts my heart every single time, and it more than makes up for any less-than-enthusiastic reactions I've ever gotten to my quilts.

I made my 19 year old son a quilt for Christmas and a few days later he was snuggled on the couch under the quilt with a cat on his lap watching TV... I told him it did my heart good to see that!

Funny, this thread is just so timely! I made my youngest son a quilt and mailed it yesterday. He had no idea I was making him one, and I was so afraid he would not really care about it. I even spent $36 in postage to get it there in 24 hrs, as we both have wednesdays off from work. Well this morning he calls and was SO happy and appreciative, it made me cry. Worth all the time and effort.
Libby- my son is Marines also, so give your son a thank you from me, and a pat on the back to you. Marine moms rock!

We as Mom's just need to know we are really appreciated and to know that they do like what we do even when they are to shy to ask or think we are to busy doing for other people.

yes, i'm learning that marine moms are just as special as their marine children. i'm just still in sock that he's old enough to do anything... i swear to you, he was born just five minutes ago!

What a wonderful gift to you that your son(s) love(s) his (their) quilt(s)! It warms a mother's heart when our kids appreciate what we do. We always had a roast, mashed potatoes, gravy and corn every Sunday. I recently found out my son requests (and cooks) this meal often. It is his comfort meal! Years ago I made him a quillow to take to college - when one of the Mom's asked to use it when staying at their apartment he told them to be careful with it cause his Mom made it. That one just wore out and had to be replaced.

How fun for you, you had quality time with him and now you get to make something special just for him.
