Mine is like yours, I think. It came from something like 1979. That was before they were invented, right?
There is a little plastic broken away under the screw, but otherwise it works well. I keep this one as my "paper cutter", and it has a very old blade in it. ( I try to use it on an old mat also.) But one day I was trying to cut some fabric and couldn't lay my hands (or eyes) on my good cutter, so I grabbed the paper cutter. Worked fine. I think a lot has to do with the fabric. Stiff fabric will cut a lot easier than soft muslin.

I have and have had several cutters - from coupon sales at Joann's, but mostly from garage and estate sales. I like the Olfa the best and none of them has worn out. However, the hub that the blade fits on has worn out on a few of the Fiskars.

I know that Olfa and Fiskar blades will work interchangeably, but Olfa blades each have 3 sprockets in the hole area, and I think they are there for a reason.
