The Ideal seam guide is great. You do get the exact seam measurement you want. The scant 1/4 was always hard for me to get, but with this guide I get it just right. When the sticky side gets dirty all you have to do is use some Fantastic, Mr. Clean or any mild cleaning soap, spray on then use your finger to clean it, run water over it and pat dry and it is as good as new. I have used it for over a year now and it still sticks fine to my machine.

I bought one for my featherweight thinking it would be the cat's neow. It worked great fir a short time, but now I can't get it to clean up sufficiently to stick.

This will probably give some of you palpitations, but after many different ideas to try and get a perfect "scant" quarter inch seam, I turned my sewing machine on so the needle was at the neutral position, I then figured out what a perfect "scant quarter inch would be. Using a permanent ink pen, I drew a line from next to the needle down to the front of the machine. Now I only have to watch the line as I sew. Seams are perfect every time! I just redraw the line as it fades. (It is my machine and I can deface it to make my work easier....lol!)

When I first began quiltmaking and was anxious about the 1/4" seam (being used to a 5/8" in garment sewing), I used blue painters' tape, a hint I saw online. Now I don't use anything.

I did that for awhile, too, as well as using blue masking tape. I can move the needle on my Brother, and on my older machines I just kind of know where that 1/4" is. I don't seem to have problems with it but I don't make terribly complicated patterns either.

There are other brands that are nearly identical that do the same thing. I know Dritz makes one. I have one that isn't made any longer but it looks just like the dritz ones. I lost the part you stick on the right side so I just use post-it pads.

This was my issue with my 301. I ended up removing the original adhesive and using the smallest of the clear Command strips. Works really great. That adhesive is usable for several times, when it is not, I pull it off and replace it. You can buy just the refills on the strips and I keep them in my twirly basket beside my machine.

I bought the magent one from Walmart for less than $3. It works great on all machines and I can move it around depending on what I need. Before anyone says anything about the magnents, just think, I have a magnent hoop for my emb machine that is so much more stronger than the little one for the seam guides. It's not going close to the computer part so its ok. Most of the times though, I just use my foot, I know what settings get me what I need.
