I make my labels using light weight fusible interfacing (like you use for when making collars and facings in garments) for the back and cotton for the front. I stitch the interfacing to the FRONT of the label with the glue side facing the RIGHT side of the label. I stitch 1/4" all around the four edges. I then cut a slit in the interfacing and turn it to the back through the slit. By putting the fusible side toward the right side of the label to start with when you turn it it is now on the outside of the back. I press the label to the back of the quilt and then slip stitch around the edge to secure it more. The fusible does not come off in the wash.

If you have finished the label it may be too late but how about putting it in the corner of the quilt??? I add leftover binding to the top (gives the edge a little oomph) first, then I tuck it into the binding before completing the binding.

Love this idea and my neighbor has a few like these. I also have a neighbor who is visually impaired. Her daughter does a lot of embroidery with a lot of candlewicking (French knots)in braille on some quilts for labeling.

I had a quilt backing that somehow ended in one corner up about 8 inches being an inch too short! I made a label the size needed to cover the shortage. It was a play quilt for my grand so I appliqued fussy cut figures on the label and then I had the binding go down the length of it and needle turned the rest. No one knew I messed up but me. LOL

I will try to piece my labels into the back, but if I can't, then I usually use some fusible material like MistyFuse or Steam a Seam to attach the label and then sew it down.
