Hi All
Does anyone have any fab ideas for a stall I am having at my sons school Mothers Day Shopping night - have big cushions and bags and pincushions but just thought there may be some other ideas out there! Thanks! |
items for sale? do a search here for craft items or such.. it will show you who sold what the most at fairs which is semi important. I would personally make pot holders. Everyone needs new potholders and maybe matching towels with fabric trim? not expensive to make AND not expensive to buy. Money is tight for the bulk of people these days and it appears the less expensive items always sell faster. Table runners, mats etc?
if your looking how to setup your stall those craft fairs blogs here help too as they have pics of their stalls. BEST OF LUCK!! |
Maybe you could cut up some fat quarters too. I love to buy them anywhere. You can also get bottle caps and make little pin cushions. Easy to make and sell them for 1.00. Stuff them with batting and cover with a cute fabric, add a piece of elastic so they can place it around finger while they sew. I bought some recycle bags like at the grocery store, canvas, and where ther is writing, I added a 12" block left over from a project and glued it on. Looksnice and easy to do. The bags are sometimes a dollar. Hope these few ideas help. Lots of luck

Pillowcases.
I agree with the smaller/less expensive items. I might part with a couple of dollars for something I consider useful, even if I don't particularly want it, if it's for a charity event. |
If you have embroider thread or thin cotton thread, you can take three strings and braid them and tie them to a nice little bead. About 10" long. Crafters use these to identify their scissors, etc. You put them on the items to make them easy to find in a class too. Could sell for 1.00 sldo. Makes up in about 2 minutes and you can make lots. Sorry, just thought of this too.

Place mats, especially for different holiday themes. Our Guild is making some for the Boutique at our Quilt Show next year....just cute fabric with binding and simple quilting....don't even need to piece the fabrics to be effective. Also small wall hangings with holiday themes.
I did craft shows for years with various products and smaller/low-priced items have always done well. However, there are people out there who will purchase larger things, so you might want to have a few larger items, too. This is also a good way to test the market in your area. Good luck! And have fun with it!! |
How about a coin purse? Terri Atkinson's Cash and Carry is really easy and cool. Otherwise Stitchen Sisters has one that is neat called Snap Happy?
|
Sachets or scented pot holders, scrunchies. What about pin cushions that are made out of the tiny little flowers pots with floral fabric for the garden?
|
These are all wonderful ideas!
I would also make corn therapy bags as they are big sellers! You can buy the "cow corn" in your local farm feed store. It is not that expensive and I like corn better than rice because of the smell. The corn when placed in a microwave smells like popcorn. Here is a link on how to make them. http://www.microwavecornbags.com/pattern.htm Just keep in mind you want something you can make pretty fast and doesn't cost a lot to make. I make a pincushion/scrap and thread holder for my quilting friends. They all love them and I can make them out of my scrap material I have left over. Here are my directions. Once you get the hang of it, it doesn't take long at all to make. I have attached a document on how to make the pincushion/scrap bag. |
Quilted post cards, mini blocks for lapel pins, and bookmarks are all quick and easy.
|
I am hearing that aprons are going like hot cakes at craft fairs and such. They are quick and easy and very cute. Also pot holders, especially if you have a lot of orphan blocks that can be made up quickly. I have also made some cute "mousie" pin cushions, the patterns are $10.00 at your LQS.
|
Tissue covers are real easy to make up. They were a hit during the holidays. I made two kinds - one in holiday/wintery fabric and the other in summery fabric. Each sale set choose one of each kind
|
Good ideas. Hope you have some time on your hands.

I make lavender eye pillows. They are very popular and easy to make. Make a approx 4 1/2 inch by 11 inch sack and fill it about 1/2 full- I use a cup of flax seeds and 1/2 cup lavender buds. They smell divine and are very helpful for people who get migraines or just need rest. I've made them for wedding parties, mothers to be, mothers with newborns, etc.
I sell them as a fundraiser for my dog rescue. $10.00 a piece and they sell! (The scent draws in buyers- have a couple on hand for "testers"- let people lean back and put it over their eyes.) You can get lavender buds online fairly inexpensively. i use perfume grade rather than "craft" grade, as it often is old and has no scent. And I buy flax either online wholesale or at Wild Oats in bulk. |
Here's a tutorial for cute water bottle holders:
http://pinkchalkstudio.com/blog/2006...ottle-carrier/ What about little cases that could be pencil cases or cosmetic cases? They're fast/easy! |
Why not make up a little kit and pattern for sale? It would be a great gift for a crafty mom. Those little eye pillows would make a cute kit. I rarely see kits for sale at those craft shows. But, I know they would sell. You could make up pot holder kits easy enough too. There are plenty of blocks that would be cute as pot holders that are easy to get your hands on that don't have copyright on them.

cute ideas, thanks

What about using up some of your orphan fabrics into baking potato bags. They don't require a lot of fabric or time and sell like hot cakes. To get directiions, google "baking potato bags". I would check them all out.
After experimenting, I settled on making mine with a flip over top - similar to a purse. They will easily sell for $10 each. Peggy |
What about aprons.....also maybe little needle cases with your left-over pieces.....
What would be great is to do Rhonda's miniature creations - she has the most wonderful patterns her on the forum - to make bookmarks, keychains....FABULOUS...did you check those out...... |
What about coffee cozies? They are a 'green' alternative to the disposable ones that Starbucks uses and much cuter.
|
A needle holder - it's like a little book - made of felt - with fancy fancy "bookcovers"
MadeinMaine sent one to me and I really like it. |
I am looking for ideas on how to quilt a Judy Niemeyer "4th of July" pattern. It is paperpieced in jewel tone fabrics. I was thinking of varigated thread, but I am stumped on the design.

Sew many wonderful ideas. I hope we get to see a pic of your wares. Have fun with the sale.

Make pet toys out of fleece. Cut out bone and other simple shapes. Put catnip in small ones for kittys.
|
At my church fair, we make reversable table runners - one side Christmas, the other Thanksgiving. Very simple, just two lengths of fabric with batting in the middle constructed by sewing and turning with a little stippling to hold it together.
|
Debbie, I love your bouncing kitty kat.
|
How about those tube pillowcases?

Thanks for the corn bag web site. I've made rice bags, but those made with corn sounds better. Will have to try them. Nothing like them.

A small pouch to hold a cell phone with a strap long enough to wrap around a purse strap or a belt & then button back to the pouch.
|
Tea bag wallets are easy and cute to make. Here is a link to one style.

I took my Grandmother's old (might have been made in the early 1900s)
sun bonnet apart and made my daughter and sister copies. They wore them to a Civil War reenactment and they looked so authentic that several women offered them up to about 40 dollars for them. You might borrow a real sun bonnet from an older friend, or find a pattern for them. Mine used strips of cardboard originally, but I used strips of a bleach bottle instead. They kept the visor stiff and straight out. I also used a much washed and bleached old rose pattern cotton dress for one, and it looked lovely. |
favecraft.com is a good resource. Blessings, Ruth

little wallets were a big sale item the last fair I went to. God bless. Penny

I make something similar that is worn as a necklace, and it's to hold a credit card, your driver's license or ID, and some money. This is great for going to flea markets, casinos or concerts. Any crowded place that you don't want to have to keep up with a purse. I make mine with lace or ribbon and beads, but a quilted one would be wonderful also. Attached is a photo of one of mine.
